The associations & MLSs charge a hefty fee for lapsed memberships.

for each state where you are licensed

is a NAR requirement for all agents; it's not optional.

The brokerage is fined for agent non-compliance.

The only way for the brokerage to avoid paying the fine is to

return the agent license to the state.
