Three Fredericksburg-area youths had the experience of a lifetime competing in Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit & Run Team Championship on the field at Washington Nationals Park on June 23. 2019 was the first time that a trio of baseball and softball players earned the right to compete in D.C. To do so, they had to win the local and regional PH&R events, both held at
Sunshine Ballpark
.
Dominic Turner
of Locust Grove took first in the 11-12 age group baseball division at the Team Championship,
Jyneece Conway
of Spotsylvania came in third in the 13-14 softball division, and
Zachary Horn
of Fredericksburg came in third in the 13-14 baseball division.
On June 23 in the Philadelphia area, two area players competed in MLB’s Mid-Atlantic regional Junior Home Run Derby.
Maddux Jackman
of Spotsylvania won the 11-12 age group at
Sunshine Ballpark
and
Daniel Lombardo
of Stafford won the 13-14 division in Fredericksburg.
Though none of the Fredericksburg players competed in the finals, each received awards from PH&R and Jr. HRD for their performances. They were among 625,000 boys and girls ages 7-14 to take part in these MLB Play Ball programs each year across America. Congratulations everyone!
