The SBF Fields were full for 2 weeks in June with kids participating in the annual Badges for Baseball Camps. Spotsylvania County and Fredericksburg City police and rescue crews hosted close to 300 children in participation. The camp, a feature program for SBF since inception, partners with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation to provide children ages 6 - 14 the opportunity to learn about baseball along with life skills and public safety activities. 2019 Pitch, Hit, Run and Jr. Home Run Derby Round-up with Congratulations to Local Youth Participants
Dominic Turner
Jyneece Conway
Zachary Horn
Three Fredericksburg-area youths had the experience of a lifetime competing in Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit & Run Team Championship on the field at Washington Nationals Park on June 23. 2019 was the first time that a trio of baseball and softball players earned the right to compete in D.C. To do so, they had to win the local and regional PH&R events, both held at Sunshine Ballpark .
Dominic Turner of Locust Grove took first in the 11-12 age group baseball division at the Team Championship, Jyneece Conway of Spotsylvania came in third in the 13-14 softball division, and Zachary Horn of Fredericksburg came in third in the 13-14 baseball division.
On June 23 in the Philadelphia area, two area players competed in MLB’s Mid-Atlantic regional Junior Home Run Derby. Maddux Jackman of Spotsylvania won the 11-12 age group at Sunshine Ballpark and Daniel Lombardo of Stafford won the 13-14 division in Fredericksburg.
Though none of the Fredericksburg players competed in the finals, each received awards from PH&R and Jr. HRD for their performances. They were among 625,000 boys and girls ages 7-14 to take part in these MLB Play Ball programs each year across America. Congratulations everyone!

SOKS — SEMA, OTA, KUA, SOMA = Speak, Dream, Grow, Read
Sunshine Ballpark welcomed 25 children from Heritage Park apartments for the 10th annual SOKS baseball camp during the week of July 15-18. The kids, age 5-14, learned baseball skills, played games, and participated in a "build your own stadium" arts & crafts project. The children also heard from Todd Academy scholars about the importance of keeping up with school work and opportunities to go to college through the program started by a grant from Doris Buffett's Sunshine Lady Foundation. The camp is made possible thanks to support from the Sunshine Ballpark Foundation, Sunshine Baseball League and volunteers from The Presbyterian Church of Fredericksburg.
