1. CAN YOU GUESS STRAIT'S DOGGY DNA RESULTS?
Strait with owner Jennifer Keaton. His DNA results are towards the end of this newsletter.
This is 5-year-old Strait, the Paws in Prison dog adopted by Friends of Paws in Prison Board President, Jennifer Keaton. When Strait came into prison he was greatly loved by Machelle Gaconnet, the late founder of Paws in Prison who passed away in 2019. She named him after country singer George Strait during her country music phase. It is guessed that he was crated too many long hours as a puppy and it affected the growth of his front legs which bow outwards. Jennifer says his big claim to fame is as a "cat whisperer." That's right, he loves kittens and Jennifer is a kitten foster volunteer with Thundering Paws. Strait, who is a gentle giant, teaches the kitty babies not to be frightened of dogs.

In December, Board Members Tia May (Board Treasurer), Jeri Muhich (Board VP) and Volunteer Debbie Berry (left) visited the Lockhart prison for an Inmate Christmas Party. The Lockhart Ladies received gifts of hand lotion, body wash and pizza to honor them for the great work they do in the Lockhart dog dorm. Debbie is the human mom to Maggie Mae, (adopted in 2017). Jeri (bottom left with inmate Tammy Gomez), is the human mom to Tater (trained by Tammy and adopted in 2020). While in prison they got to see their PIP pups' names on the Wall of Second Chances, where the names of every adopted dog since the 2007 founding of Paws in Prison is inscribed. As of 2022, there are approximately 500 adopted dog names!
The Lockhart Ladies saw the final edited video production of their Christmas skit, The Isle of Misfit Dogs. The best part of the day was the opportunity for Tia, Jeri, Debbie and Executive Director Catherine Laria (bottom right) to watch the ladies' joy and laughter as they viewed for the first time the final edited version of the video skit they worked so hard to produce. They created all the Christmas decorations and props themselves! If you haven't seen the skit, be sure to click the link above.

Starla Holley is an inmate in the Paws in Prison program in the Lockhart Correctional Facility. She was very excited when she was told her poem would be placed in this February's Paws in Prison newsletter.

4. AMPLIFY AUSTIN DAY
From 6pm on Wednesday, March 2 to
6pm on Thursday, March 3
Amplify Austin Day is the biggest day of giving for Central Texas nonprofit organizations. For 24 hours, from 6pm on Wednesday, March 2nd, to 6pm on Thursday, March 3rd, individuals and companies will come together to support more than 700 nonprofits online at AmplifyATX.org.
Thanks to many of you, 2021 Amplify Austin Day resulted in nearly 15% of the Friends of Paws in Prison's annual budget. We need your help to make an even bigger impact on our program this year. With increasing vet and training expenses, your support on this day of giving will help us continue "SAVING MORE THAN DOGS."
Here is our big need; we are asking each of you to create your own Fundraiser page as part of the Friends of Paws in Prison Amplify Austin team. What that means is that you set up your fundraising page (and it's easy) within our main page then encourage your network of people via email, texts, social media or just a good old live conversation to raise money and awareness for Friends of Paws in Prison by sending them to your own fundraising page! Then all you need to do is send them to your page where they can learn about us, then if they feel so moved, make a donation of any size. And the top 4 fundraisers at 6pm CST on Thursday, April 3 will get a $50 gift card to Amazon donated by the Friends of Paws in Prison Board!
So many are inspired by our mission but we need your help to share our story and direct them to your fundraising page! Here are the steps to create your personal fundraising page for Friends of Paws in Prison.
