Camp Smiley

Squid-diddly Howdy! Albert,

I returned last night from a 9-day trip to the East Coast to see my family and take some nice walks with friends. That's my brother Dan above. Here are some pictures and videos of the trip. As you can see I made it to Sumneytown, PA where our family cabin lives. While there I got to hang out with a bunch of the guys who spend time there - Drew Kerr, Charlie Juneau, Ted Stevens, and Ned Bloom. The leaves are falling and the mighty Unami River (my Mom insists it's a creek) has done some major damage to the road which goes over a bridge. See pics for a little fall color.

During this interesting time, you may have found yourself spending more time outdoors. Me, too. It's probably my favorite upside to this Coronavirus pandemic. And once you step outside you can't help but notice the Powertool Orchestra. After pushing to get gas-powered leaf-blowers banned in Portland, we're finally really getting some headway. But in Philadelphia, I don't think anyone is working on the issue at all. It seemed like every day I ran into at least one wall of leaf-blowing madness that would go on for an hour or so. Eventually, these will be banned everywhere, but in the meantime, I guess we get to live with the awfulness or spend less time outdoors. Really what needs to happen is there needs to be a change away from lawn culture. It's coming, but oh so slowly. Join me in getting rid of your lawn!

If you have extra fruit or vegetables consider offering it to your neighbor

Share in the Harvest are social groups that connect people in the area who want to offer homegrown food. You can share veggies, herbs, fruit, eggs, and more! Please feel free to ask for what you're seeking, too. Here are some new groups I started in the last 3 days.

I thought it would be fun to share with you one from the vault. Here's one from 11.11.11.

Today I've been spending time trying to organize $ help for a Habonim/Dror Alum whom I've known since I was a teenager. If you would like to help out please let me know.

Also, I started a conversation about planting some hemp at the Oregon Country Faire (OCF). That's led to a sparky conversation in an OCF FB group where all sorts of people who know about and grow hemp have come to the surface. I look forward to seeing where that conversation/project goes.

About that Facebook. I often hear people complain about Facebook - particularly advertising. Check out F.B. Purity. I've been using it for years. It allows you to customize FB in many ways that make it much easier to use and = no advertising!

Please send a note back if you feel like it. I'd love to hear how you're doing and what you're up to.

Take care,

Lots of love, Albert

PS - I've still got about 20 of these cute iron-on patches. Reply with your address and I'll send you one!
