Welcome Back To

Baruch PAC News

Dear friends:

We’ve still got a number of events to go before the end of May – Heartbeat Opera’s Faust, several more weeks from our friends at Prospect Musicals, two nights of comedy, and concerts by jazz artist Jumaane Smith and classical accordionist Hanzhi Wang. But believe it or not, my focus has largely turned to next year.

Remarkably, we already have work scheduled in the Nagelberg Theatre pretty much non-stop between early October and late April. This is an extraordinary revival for the space, which has been used somewhat sporadically since we reopened in mid-2022, after two years of pandemic shutdown. But between returning friends and new projects, we have every expectation of a full calendar for months on end.

Now my attention turns heavily to what will be in the recital hall, which tends towards the musical or spoken word and panel events. We’ll continue to identify rising classical artists, but have begun to look towards a wider range of musical styles, led off by the return of jazz to our stages. Even with Jumaane Smith in May, Our next Milt Hinton Memorial concert is slated for December and while I can’t reveal the artist, I think aficionados will appreciate who will be with us. I’m continuing to look to jazz, to standards and to folk and Americana, because our recital hall can host more than just recitals. Plus given the initial response to comedy in the recital hall, you’ll see more of that as well, with folks stepping up from nightclubs to a more concert-like experience in the Engelman.

We know that most music venues offer food and alcoholic drinks, and that’s outside our capacity at Baruch PAC. But what we offer is an “all in” experience, with no charges beyond the ticket price, meaning that for music or laughs, you won’t have to pay even more once you get here, making the experience here more affordable that any club, as we try to keep our ticket prices to $40 or below for these events.

I need to get back onto email with a whole raft of agents, but don’t hesitate to let me know the kinds of things you’d be interested in seeing at Baruch PAC – and please join us before we wrap up for the spring.

Sincerely,

Howard Sherman
