| The Water Oak Slated for Removal | |
Saying Goodbye to the Mighty Oak
To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.
- Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
On Wednesday, April 29, we will say goodbye to a cherished friend when the water oak at the south-west corner of the church grounds will be removed. For decades, this majestic sentinel has witnessed weddings, baptisms, funerals, and the daily and seasonal rhythms of parish life.
The reasons for this action are practical. While we have been enlisting the efforts of arborists to treat and care for the tree for years, it is now nearing the end of its natural life. Stress on the oak has been hastened by an aggressive spread of mistletoe and, significantly, by oak bracket fungus compromising its root system. A failure of the tree in a major storm is of increasing concern. With this potential danger to the parish and our neighbors, the Saint Andrew’s Vestry approved this project to be undertaken by The City Arborist. Reflecting on this change to our parish grounds, master gardener Adelaide Gantt said, “its removal will provide sufficient sunlight for growing roses and other beautiful plants to enhance the columbarium, giving the Saint Andrew’s gardeners new opportunities and challenges.”
Some of the plants underneath the oak will be uprooted. These include an azalea and several irises. Parishioners who would like any of these for their own gardens are welcome to stop by, to help dig them up when the Garden Crew next meets on Saturday, April 18. The St. Andrew’s Garden Crew will be considering new plantings for this area.
Also scheduled for removal are two trees with advanced stages of disease— a dogwood on the east side of the church and a mulberry behind the Parish House.

GOAL Justice Nehemiah Action Rally | TODAY, Thursday, April 9 | 6:30 PM | First Baptist Church of Greenville (847 Cleveland St)
GOAL Justice’s 2026 focus continues on affordable housing and mental health specifically: evictions and teen bullying and suicides. Every month 1200 evictions, which often become a permanent record, are filed in Greenville County making our community one of the highest eviction rates nationally. We have a 655 to 1 student ratio for school counselors to students compared to the national average of 1 to 300.
Simply by showing up, you will demonstrate to the elected officials the importance of these issues and you will make a difference in our community. The power of your presence is significant. When an elected official looks across 1500 people in First Baptist Church, they know we care.
Please join Anne Kaiser, Saint Andrew's GOAL Justice team leader, and other committed Saint Andrews parishioners on This evening, April 9 at First Baptist Church of Greenville for the Nehemiah Action Rally at 6:30 PM. Doors open at 6:00 and the inspiring session ends at 8:00 PM.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Anne Kaiser.

UPDATED: Parking at Saint Andrew's
For detailed parking instructions, click here.
***PLEASE NOTE - West End Baptist Church, which owns the parking lot around Saint Andrew's, has reduced the parking lot area available on Sundays to the area closer to South Main Street--with the back part of the parking lot (against Rhett Street) no longer available. As a result, please enter the parking lot via South Main Street. The map linked below has been updated to reflect that change.***
| |
Note: You need a parking decal to park in the designated lots. They can be found on the shelf to the left of the doors as you exit the church.
| Sunday Altar Flower and Presence Candle Dedications | |
On Sundays, we have the opportunity to offer a special dedication of the altar flowers or presence candle in honor, memory, or celebration of loved ones. The cost to the church for altar flowers is now $100 per Sunday, so we are suggesting that donations for dedicating altar flowers be in the range of $50 to $100 to help us cover those costs. The suggested donation for a presence candle dedication is $10.
If you would like to sign up for a Sunday, please see the sign up sheet on the bulletin in the Parish Hall or click on the button below. You may place a check in the offering plate with "Altar Flowers" or "Presence Candle" noted in the memo.
We will continue to only have Altar Flowers if someone has signed up and paid for the arrangements. As a result, we will need to know by the Tuesday prior to the upcoming Sunday if you would like to sign up.

Gardening for Good is sustained year-round through the success of our Plant Sale. Quite simply, all roads lead back to the garden-and we are so thankful to grow alongside each of you. | | | |

Choir | Rehearsal on Sundays at 9:30 AM
We are always seeking additional volunteers for the Saint Andrew’s choir, which currently gathers on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM (and not on Wednesday evenings) to prepare the music for the 10:30 mass. This more limited time commitment provides an excellent opportunity for prospective new members to “try us out.” If you have questions, contact the Parish Office—or just show up on Sunday morning!
