A Time for Planning
The church calendar in January is not as busy as it can be other times of year -- especially in contrast to the busier times of Advent, Lent, and Holy Week -- so it can provide an opportunity to spend some dedicated time planning ahead.
Thus, this coming weekend will be a time for planning--spending some time with the Vestry, our elected parish leaders, intentionally considering where God is calling us as we turn the page on our 125th anniversary year and try to figure out how best to be faithful to that call in the days, months, and years before us.
Starting with supper tomorrow evening and continuing through the early afternoon on Saturday, the Vestry of Saint Andrew's will gather for our annual vestry retreat, where we will spend time in prayer, reflection, and conversation about how the vestry can most faithfully lead and serve this parish in this work that Christ is calling us to do in this next year -- as we prepare to welcome our first Associate Rector, The Reverend Molly McGee Short, in March -- and as I prepare for a four-month sabbatical starting in early May.
After we wrap up on Saturday afternoon, the members of the Vestry and I will take a break for the evening -- before returning to church on Sunday morning. Then, after the 10:30 mass, the vestry will have our regular monthly vestry meeting where we will, among other things, finalize our budget for 2026. (I am extremely grateful that, with all of this going on this weekend, Mtr. Lee Ann Tolzmann has graciously agreed to be our preacher on Sunday.)
Over the course of this weekend, I encourage you to have the Vestry in your prayers -- that we would be open and responsive to God's guidance in all of this.
And, through it all, may we be inspired and empowered as God's people in this place as we seek to make God's love known through the mission and ministry of Saint Andrew's.
Grace and Peace,
Fr. Gary+

UPDATED: Parking at Saint Andrew's
For detailed parking instructions, click here.
***PLEASE NOTE - West End Baptist Church, which owns the parking lot around Saint Andrew's, has reduced the parking lot area available on Sundays to the area closer to South Main Street--with the back part of the parking lot (against Rhett Street) no longer available. As a result, please enter the parking lot via South Main Street. The map linked below has been updated to reflect that change.***
| |
Note: You need a parking decal to park in the designated lots. They can be found on the shelf to the left of the doors as you exit the church.
| Sunday Altar Flower and Presence Candle Dedications | |
On Sundays, we have the opportunity to offer a special dedication of the altar flowers or presence candle in honor, memory, or celebration of loved ones. The cost to the church for altar flowers is now $100 per Sunday, so we are suggesting that donations for dedicating altar flowers be in the range of $50 to $100 to help us cover those costs. The suggested donation for a presence candle dedication is $10.
If you would like to sign up for a Sunday, please see the sign up sheet on the bulletin in the Parish Hall or click on the button below. You may place a check in the offering plate with "Altar Flowers" or "Presence Candle" noted in the memo.
We will continue to only have Altar Flowers if someone has signed up and paid for the arrangements. As a result, we will need to know by the Tuesday prior to the upcoming Sunday if you would like to sign up.
