Summer Potluck
to Celebrate the Anniversary of
Saint Andrew’s First Worship Service
This Sunday, July 24 | After the 10:30 AM Mass
On the evening of Sunday, July 14, 1900, the newly formed Saint Andrew’s Mission held its first worship service in Ferguson Hall above a storefront on Pendleton Street. Then, five years later, in July 1905, the first worship service took place in the newly-constructed Saint Andrew’s church building. In recognition of those anniversaries (and because we are always looking for a good excuse to eat good food together!), we are holding a covered dish lunch following the 10:30 AM mass this Sunday, July 24. Please plan to join us for worship followed by food and fellowship. Heavenly Ham and beverages will be provided. Side items, salads, and desserts are needed. Please contact Riley Owens with any questions.
A Note from the Rector: As mentioned in The Call last Friday, we are once again encouraging folks to consider wearing masks in worship – especially if they have particular vulnerability concerns – in light of evidence of increased risk of COVID infection in the community.  With that said, after consulting with the vestry at this past Sunday’s meeting, we have decided to proceed with our Summer Potluck Lunch on Sunday – though we encourage everyone to evaluate their own risk levels in deciding whether to attend. Given that we will likely be dealing with varying levels of risk relating to COVID for the foreseeable future, we want to be able to offer meaningful – though optional – fellowship opportunities like this for the parish.  Please feel free to let me – or any member of the vestry – know if you have any questions or concerns.
Quarterly Planning Lunch Meeting | Wednesday, July 27 | Noon

Our next quarterly planning meeting with the leaders of all parish ministries will meet in the parish hall on Wednesday, July 27, at noon.
Saint Andrew’s Book Club | Sunday, August 7 | At the Home of Kay Friddle | 12:45 PM

We will discuss Jennifer Egan’s Candy House. Kay Friddle is hosting this month’s book club at her home located at 4 Phillips Trl. Bring a snack and a beverage if you’d like. If you have any questions, contact Kay Friddle. We are also going to see the film Where the Crawdads Sing at the Cherrydale Cinema for a matinee showing this Sunday, July 24 at 3:40 PM.

St. Paul United Methodist Church Backpack Supply Drive

Our neighbors at St. Paul are hosting an outdoor market full of free school supplies on August 7. Over the next few weeks, Saint Andrew’s is invited to participate by collecting donations of school supplies (pencils, crayons, notebooks, paper, etc.) for the students in need in our community. Items may be placed in the collection bin in the Parish Hall.
School starts Monday, August 15 so students and teachers are encouraged to bring their backpacks to church so that the students, teachers, and their backpacks can be blessed for the coming year!
Summer Choir | Rehearsal on Sundays at 9:30 AM

We are always seeking additional volunteers for the Saint Andrew’s choir, which gathers on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM (and not on Wednesday evenings) to prepare the music for the 10:30 mass. This more limited time commitment provides an excellent opportunity for prospective new members to “try us out.” If you have questions, contact the Parish Office—or just show up on Sunday morning!
Coffee Hour Has Resumed
Sign Up for Future Dates

We have resumed our regular coffee hour fellowship following the 10:30 AM mass. Please consider volunteering to assist with refreshments and set up! A sign up sheet can be found on the “Welcome” bulletin board in the Parish Hall or online at the link below.
Sunday Altar Flower and Presence Candle Dedications
On Sundays, we have the opportunity to offer a special dedication of the altar flowers or presence candle in honor, memory, or celebration of loved ones. The cost to the church for altar flowers is now $100 per Sunday, so we are suggesting that donations for dedicating altar flowers be in the range of $50 to $100 to help us cover those costs. The suggested donation for a presence candle dedication is $10.

If you would like to sign up for a Sunday, please see the sign up sheet on the bulletin in the Parish Hall or click on the button below. You may place a check in the offering plate with "Altar Flowers" or "Presence Candle" noted in the memo.

We will continue to only have Altar Flowers if someone has signed up and paid for the arrangements. As a result, we will need to know by the Tuesday prior to the upcoming Sunday if you would like to sign up.

Service Opportunities
Nursery During Worship to Reopen in the Fall

We are hoping to reopen our nursery in the near future. We plan to have one staff member in the nursery during the 10:30 AM Mass, however we will need at least one parish volunteer each Sunday to serve as our second nursery caregiver. If you have gifts for working with infants and young children – and have “Safe Church” training (and are fully vaccinated), we could use your help! If you are interested, please e-mail office@standrewsgreenville.org. More details to come!
Volunteers Needed
Feed Thy Neighbor

Founded in 2010, Feed Thy Neighbor is a cooperative effort of the Episcopal community in Greenville. Parish volunteers from Saint Andrew’s, St. Peter’s, St. James, and Christ Church feed the hungry each Saturday from 7:30 to 8:30 AM. At the onset of the pandemic, Feed Thy Neighbor suspended indoor seating and distributed brown bag meals, but they have now resumed indoor gathering. As a result, we are seeking more volunteers to help serve and clean up. Please contact the office if you would like to volunteer: office@standrewsgreenville.org.
