Called to Worship. Sent to Witness. Led to Welcome.

Parting Words from Our Parish Administrator, Marie Ridolfo

As many of you know, yesterday was Marie Ridolfo's last day serving as our Parish Administrator -- as she prepares to move to Boston later this summer. We have been incredibly blessed to have her on our staff and as a part of our parish community for the past six years. Below are some words that she wanted to share with you as she prepared to depart:

Dear friends,

As I prepare to say goodbye after six deeply rewarding years as your Parish Administrator, I find myself reflecting on just how special this community is. Working with Fr. Gary, Fr. Tyler, John Gilbert, the vestry, and many lay ministries, has been an absolute joy. I’ve learned so much from their dedication and kindness.

But what I will miss most is all of you—the parishioners who welcomed me so warmly and shared so many personal moments over the years. Getting to know you, hearing your stories, laughing together, and supporting one another through challenges has been a true gift. These connections have made Saint Andrew’s feel less like a workplace and more like family.

Though I’m excited for this new chapter in Boston, leaving you all behind is bittersweet. I hope very much that we can stay in touch. My personal email is marieregine@me.com, and beginning August 15, my new address will be 332 Bridge St., South Hamilton, MA 01982.

Thank you for everything. I will always carry the friendships and memories I’ve made here close to my heart, and you will have my warmest wishes always.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Marie

Prayers for our National Life

As many of you prepare to celebrate Independence Day tomorrow, our prayer book provides us with the following litany of prayers offering thanks for the many blessings that we enjoy as citizens of the United States--while also challenging us to live more fully into the promises of our common civic life:

A Litany of Thanksgiving for Our National Life

(found on pages 838-39 of the Book of Common Prayer)

Almighty God, giver of all good things:

We thank you for the natural majesty and beauty of this land. They restore us, though we often destroy them.

Heal us.

We thank you for the great resources of this nation. They make us rich, though we often exploit them.

Forgive us.

We thank you for the men and women who have made this country strong. They are models for us, though we often fall short of them.

Inspire us.

We thank you for the torch of liberty which has been lit in this land. It has drawn people from every nation, though we have often hidden from its light.

Enlighten us.

We thank you for the faith we have inherited in all its rich variety. It sustains our life, though we have been faithless again and again.

Renew us.

Help us, O Lord, to finish the good work here begun. Strengthen our efforts to blot out ignorance and prejudice, and to abolish poverty and crime. And hasten the day when all our people, with many voices in one united chorus, will glorify your holy Name. Amen.

I invite you to join in these prayers tomorrow and in the days ahead--so that God would be at work through them as we seek to live faithfully in a land where so many continue to hope that the promises of our common civic life will someday be realized.

Grace & Peace,

Fr. Gary+

125th Anniversary Sunday with Guest Preacher and Parish Lunch

Sunday, July 13

On the evening of July 7, 1900, the newly-formed Saint Andrew’s Mission held its first worship service in Ferguson Hall above a storefront on Pendleton Street. Then, five years later, in July 1905, the worship service took place in the newly-constructed Saint Andrew’s church building. In special recognition of the 125th anniversary of our first worship service—and in continued celebration of our 125 anniversary year, we will welcome Fr. “IV” Lyon of Church of the Good Shepherd (Columbia) as our guest preacher. In addition to being the other Anglo-Catholic parish in our diocese, Good Shepherd is also where our founding rector, The Reverend Alexander Mitchell, served before coming to Greenville. Following the 10:30 AM Mass, we will gather in the Parish Hall for a catered BBQ lunch! (No need to bring food this year!) Please contact Riley Owens with any questions about the lunch.

Part-Time Job Openings at Saint Andrew’s

As Fr. Gary previously announced The Call, Saint Andrew’s is seeking to fill several part-time positions on our staff. For more information about the job opportunities, please click on the link below.

Please consider volunteering to assist with refreshments and set up for our coffee hour fellowship following the 10:30 AM Mass. A sign up sheet can be found on the “Welcome” bulletin board in the Parish Hall or online at the link below.

UPDATED: Parking at Saint Andrew's

For detailed parking instructions, click here.

***PLEASE NOTE - West End Baptist Church, which owns the parking lot around Saint Andrew's, has reduced the parking lot area available on Sundays to the area closer to South Main Street--with the back part of the parking lot (against Rhett Street) no longer available. As a result, please enter the parking lot via South Main Street. The map linked below has been updated to reflect that change.***

Note: You need a parking decal to park in the designated lots. They can be found on the shelf to the left of the doors as you exit the church.

Sunday Altar Flower and Presence Candle Dedications

On Sundays, we have the opportunity to offer a special dedication of the altar flowers or presence candle in honor, memory, or celebration of loved ones. The cost to the church for altar flowers is now $100 per Sunday, so we are suggesting that donations for dedicating altar flowers be in the range of $50 to $100 to help us cover those costs. The suggested donation for a presence candle dedication is $10.

If you would like to sign up for a Sunday, please see the sign up sheet on the bulletin in the Parish Hall or click on the button below. You may place a check in the offering plate with "Altar Flowers" or "Presence Candle" noted in the memo.

We will continue to only have Altar Flowers if someone has signed up and paid for the arrangements. As a result, we will need to know by the Tuesday prior to the upcoming Sunday if you would like to sign up.

Service Opportunities

Choir | Rehearsal on Sundays at 9:30 AM

We are always seeking additional volunteers for the Saint Andrew’s choir, which currently gathers on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM (and not on Wednesday evenings) to prepare the music for the 10:30 mass. This more limited time commitment provides an excellent opportunity for prospective new members to “try us out.” If you have questions, contact the Parish Office—or just show up on Sunday morning!

Volunteers Needed

Feed Thy Neighbor

Founded in 2010, Feed Thy Neighbor is a cooperative effort of the Episcopal community in Greenville. Parish volunteers from Saint Andrew’s, St. Peter’s, St. James, and Christ Church feed the hungry each Saturday from 7:30 to 8:30 AM. We are seeking volunteers to help serve and clean up. Please contact the office if you would like to volunteer: office@standrewsgreenville.org.
