After the Fourth of July
This past week, the Episcopal Church Public Policy network posted a beautiful prayer to remember both the foundational values guiding the formation of the United States of America and the good work that lies ahead as we seek to make these values real in our communities. In reading the petitions of the prayer below, I was reminded of the first of Rev. Dr. King’s six principles of nonviolence: “Nonviolence is a way of life for courageous people.” To pray these words and to invite the Holy Spirit to transform our hearts to do them is a courageous act indeed. Now that the celebratory crackles of fireworks and heartfelt renditions of the National Anthem have rung out in Fourth of July celebrations across the nation, I commend this prayer to you.
For the Long Work of Freedom
God of freedom, who desires protection, dignity, and liberty for all people, we are thankful for the long work of freedom in the United States. Grant that this nation may keep its promise of liberty and be bold and courageous in its pursuit of justice. We give thanks to our forebears who journeyed on the long road to freedom: Indigenous communities who have endured colonization and defended their sovereignty while preserving their cultures and communities; enslaved people who resisted bondage; abolitionists who fought for emancipation; women who struggled for suffrage; workers who demanded dignity; civil rights leaders who marched for justice; and all who have labored to make this country more faithful to its highest promises. On this country's 250th anniversary, help us mark this milestone with truth-telling and celebration, in the hope that we can continue to strive for dignity and rights for all people, including immigrants, people with disabilities, and those who continue to be discriminated against and marginalized. Teach us to see liberty not as a possession to guard, but as a promise to deepen and expand. Lend your strength and courage to all who are still waiting for protection and freedom. Grant this, O Lord, through Christ who sets the captive free. Amen.

Back to School Supply Drive:
Now until August 2
Saint Andrew’s is once again partnering with Christ Church Episcopal to fill 150 backpacks for students in need of school supplies. Our Goal is to collect 150 boxes of 24 Count Crayola Crayons by Sunday August 2.
If you wish to contribute Crayons, please bring boxes to the Parish Hall. An Amazon wishlist has also been set up if you desire to sent them directly to the Parish. Reach out to Jenny Peer with any questions.

Monthly Mass at Woodlands | Thursday, July 16 | 1 PM | Community Village Room
The third Thursday of each month, our priests preside over a monthly service of Holy Eucharist at the Woodlands Retirement Community at Furman. If you have friends or family members residing at the Woodlands who wish to participate, please share this information with them. If you are interested in assisting Mtr. Molly with the mass, please let her know.

Feed Thy Neighbor Service Opportunity | Saturday, July 18 | 7:30-8:30 AM | Parish Hall
Every Saturday, those experiencing homelessness within our community are invited to Feed Thy Neighbor (FTN) for a warm, homemade breakfast. Founded in 2010, FTN has grown to become a cooperative effort of the Episcopal community in Greenville. Saint Andrew’s, St. Peter’s, St. James, and Holy Cross all participate by coordinating and serving breakfast one Saturday a month from 7:30 to 8:30 AM. If you are interested in helping, the next time Saint Andrew’s will prepare and serve breakfast is Saturday, July 18. Email the parish office with any questions.

Choir Rehearsal Update
Now through Labor Day, Sunday morning choir rehearsals will take place at 9:30 AM in the Parish Hall with the piano. Starting September 13, we will begin rehearsal at 9:00 AM in the Parish Hall before moving to the sanctuary at 9:30 AM for the remaining time. Please make a note of this change.
Additionally, please let Leslie Boyette know if you have a preference on a mid-week rehearsal day. This would begin the week of September 13. Due to other activities going on in the Parish Hall on Wednesday evenings this fall, it may be best to rehearse on another day. If you have a preference, please email Leslie.

***PLEASE NOTE - West End Baptist Church, which owns the parking lot around Saint Andrew's, has reduced the parking lot area available on Sundays to the area closer to South Main Street--with the back part of the parking lot (against Rhett Street) no longer available. As a result, please enter the parking lot via South Main Street. The map linked below has been updated to reflect that change.***

| Sunday Altar Flower and Presence Candle Dedications | |
On Sundays, we have the opportunity to offer a special dedication of the altar flowers or presence candle in honor, memory, or celebration of loved ones. The cost to the church for altar flowers is now $100 per Sunday, so we are suggesting that donations for dedicating altar flowers be in the range of $50 to $100 to help us cover those costs. The suggested donation for a presence candle dedication is $10.
If you would like to sign up for a Sunday, please see the sign up sheet on the bulletin in the Parish Hall or click on the button below. You may place a check in the offering plate with "Altar Flowers" or "Presence Candle" noted in the memo.
We will continue to only have Altar Flowers if someone has signed up and paid for the arrangements. As a result, we will need to know by the Tuesday prior to the upcoming Sunday if you would like to sign up.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: We now have three catechists at Saint Andrew's!
From June 15 through June 20, parishioners Laura Rhodes and Cheryl Banks completed their training to become officially licensed catechists in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) curriculum. Father Gary+ also completed his training to become a catechist (even while on sabbatical!) in recognition of this essential role in the life of our parish. CGS is a Montessori based program to help children cultivate a thriving relationship with God while learning essential stories of the faith. Thank you and congratulations to Laura, Cheryl, and Father Gary+!

Feed Thy Neighbor
Founded in 2010, Feed Thy Neighbor is a cooperative effort of the Episcopal community in Greenville. Parish volunteers from Saint Andrew’s, St. Peter’s, St. James, and Christ Church feed the hungry each Saturday from 7:30 to 8:30 AM. We are seeking volunteers to help serve and clean up.
