Called to Worship. Sent to Witness. Led to Welcome. | | |
From the Rector:
Hope to See You Sunday
as We Celebrate the Feast of Saint Andrew
and Hold Our Annual Parish Meeting!
| | |
This Sunday is an important day in the life of our parish. As we enter the final weeks of our 125th Anniversary Year, we will gather to celebrate our patronal feast, the Feast of Saint Andrew. As a result, we will once again have the opportunity to reflect on the invitation that, according to Matthew and Mark's Gospels, Jesus offered to Andrew and his brother, Peter, as he found them casting their nets into the sea: "“Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.”
Those words (or at least the King James version of those words) are found in the diamond-shaped window in our church (above the doors to narthex). They are followed by the verse that records Andrew and Peter's reaction: "Immediately they left their nets and followed him." (Or as they read on the window -- "And they straightaway left their nets and followed him.")
At Saint Andrew's, we have been called to that common labor--to follow Jesus so that we might be fishers of people--so that, through our worship, our witness, and our welcome, we can offer Christ's abundant love to God's children in this particular time and place.
On Sunday, we will feast together -- through both the sacred meal that we will share in the church as well as the blessed meal that we share in the parish hall -- and we will reflect on our continued calling in this day and in the year ahead. We will elect leaders to help guide us in that calling. And we will celebrate all that God is doing in our midst--as we anticipate the next steps of the ongoing journey of following the one who called our brother Andrew from the shoreline.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Grace & Peace,
Fr. Gary+

UPDATED: Parking at Saint Andrew's
For detailed parking instructions, click here.
***PLEASE NOTE - West End Baptist Church, which owns the parking lot around Saint Andrew's, has reduced the parking lot area available on Sundays to the area closer to South Main Street--with the back part of the parking lot (against Rhett Street) no longer available. As a result, please enter the parking lot via South Main Street. The map linked below has been updated to reflect that change.***
| |
Note: You need a parking decal to park in the designated lots. They can be found on the shelf to the left of the doors as you exit the church.
| Sunday Altar Flower and Presence Candle Dedications | |
On Sundays, we have the opportunity to offer a special dedication of the altar flowers or presence candle in honor, memory, or celebration of loved ones. The cost to the church for altar flowers is now $100 per Sunday, so we are suggesting that donations for dedicating altar flowers be in the range of $50 to $100 to help us cover those costs. The suggested donation for a presence candle dedication is $10.
If you would like to sign up for a Sunday, please see the sign up sheet on the bulletin in the Parish Hall or click on the button below. You may place a check in the offering plate with "Altar Flowers" or "Presence Candle" noted in the memo.
We will continue to only have Altar Flowers if someone has signed up and paid for the arrangements. As a result, we will need to know by the Tuesday prior to the upcoming Sunday if you would like to sign up.

A Note From Anne Kaiser About GOAL Justice
Over 33 churches, synagogues, houses of faith have joined GOAL Justice in the pursuit of caring for the greater Greenville Community.
The members conducted over 1,000 interviews to determine the key issues to vote on last week. Over 293 individuals attended Long Branch Baptist Church Community Problems Assembly for GOAL Justice. Affordable Housing and Mental Health were selected by vote as the top two issues.
The next gathering is Thursday, November 20 at 6:30 at Enoree River Association Center to dig deeper into the issues and identify the research necessary to shape the policies and actions.
If you are interested in attending please email me for details and carpooling arrangements.
Deep gratitude for St. Andrews’s commitment to living out our faith.

LETTER FROM THE CEO
Dear Project Host Friends and Supporters,
Lately at Project Host, we've watched the need grow-not just in numbers, but in faces and stories from right here in our community. With a potential delay in November SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits across South Carolina, many families are experiencing uncertainty about how they will access food in the coming weeks.

Choir | Rehearsal on Sundays at 9:30 AM
We are always seeking additional volunteers for the Saint Andrew’s choir, which currently gathers on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM (and not on Wednesday evenings) to prepare the music for the 10:30 mass. This more limited time commitment provides an excellent opportunity for prospective new members to “try us out.” If you have questions, contact the Parish Office—or just show up on Sunday morning!
