From the Rector

Dedication & Blessing of Our Historic Plaque

This past Sunday, at 4 PM, we were grateful to be able to welcome our Diocesan Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Daniel Richards, for a special service of dedicating and blessing the new plaque placed on the church in recognition of our listing on the National Register of Historic Places. (If you would like to see a copy of the service bulletin, you can find it here.)

In particular, we recognized the faithful and determined labors of a number of Saint Andrew's parishioners and friends in getting us to this day. Specifically, as I mentioned in the remarks offered during the service, Kay Friddle, Dan Hunt, Sheila Manchester, and Scott McMillan were instrumental in getting the process started over a decade ago when Fr. Stephen Bolle was our Interim Rector. Then, former senior warden, Riley Owens, made sure that, even in the midst of delays, we kept at it and never gave up.

Moreover, last year, as we planned for our 125th Anniversary Year, we set a goal of finally seeing this through, and it was during those planning sessions that Erin Culbertson and J.J. Andrighetti had the knowledge and foresight to recommend that we engage the help of an historical consultant. Then, Erin connected us with Staci Richey, whose professional assistance saw us through to a successful conclusion this year. (You can read more about the state hearing where we received preliminary approval in a reflection that our former curate, Fr. Tyler, wrote earlier this year.)

As stated in the Opening Words of the service, we gathered this past Sunday to honor the efforts of those who founded and built Saint Andrew's as well as the efforts of all who have served God through the ministries of Saint Andrew’s--as we also rededicated ourselves to those efforts.

Bishop Richards concluded his blessing over the plaque with this charge: "May it inspire in [God's people at Saint Andrew's] gratitude for the labors that have preceded them and fill them with determination to share the Good News that we receive within these walls!"

Grace & Peace,

Fr. Gary+

UPDATED: Parking at Saint Andrew's

For detailed parking instructions, click here.

***PLEASE NOTE - West End Baptist Church, which owns the parking lot around Saint Andrew's, has reduced the parking lot area available on Sundays to the area closer to South Main Street--with the back part of the parking lot (against Rhett Street) no longer available. As a result, please enter the parking lot via South Main Street. The map linked below has been updated to reflect that change.***

Note: You need a parking decal to park in the designated lots. They can be found on the shelf to the left of the doors as you exit the church.

Sunday Altar Flower and Presence Candle Dedications

On Sundays, we have the opportunity to offer a special dedication of the altar flowers or presence candle in honor, memory, or celebration of loved ones. The cost to the church for altar flowers is now $100 per Sunday, so we are suggesting that donations for dedicating altar flowers be in the range of $50 to $100 to help us cover those costs. The suggested donation for a presence candle dedication is $10.

If you would like to sign up for a Sunday, please see the sign up sheet on the bulletin in the Parish Hall or click on the button below. You may place a check in the offering plate with "Altar Flowers" or "Presence Candle" noted in the memo.

We will continue to only have Altar Flowers if someone has signed up and paid for the arrangements. As a result, we will need to know by the Tuesday prior to the upcoming Sunday if you would like to sign up.

Nominees for Vestry & Diocesan Delegate

Ellen Mays, Vestry Nominee

I’m Ellen Mays and am happy to be nominated to serve on the Vestry again! I grew up in the Methodist Church, and found Saint Andrew’s after graduating from Furman. I have attended since 1998, and was confirmed here in 2000. I have celebrated many events here in the life of the church and in my own life, including Mary B’s baptism. But it is our people and the weekly worship that help me feel knit into the fabric of this beautiful place. I’ve served many roles over the years and currently read with the book club, work on the yard crew, coordinate Rebuild Upstate projects, and participate in ECW. I work for SC DPH as Greenville Health Department Manager. I enjoy reading, walking, sipping tea, and tending my house plants. My daughter is now a freshman at UNCSA.

Rusty Infinger, Vestry Nominee

A member of Saint Andrew’s since 2015, Rusty Infinger joined the parish transferring from Christ Church Greenville. During his time at Saint Andrew’s, he has served in a number of roles. Rusty served on Vestry where he held the position as clerk and also was Junior Warden for a 1 year term. Additionally, he was a member of the Finance Committee serving as chair and serving as pledge drive chair one year. For the past several years, Rusty has been the co-chair of the Mission & Outreach Committee working with a team to provide guidance of the Church’s resources to support our neighbors who need assistance. He has volunteered on Rebuild Upstate projects. Rusty regularly assists with the altar party primarily serving as a Torch Bearer.

Currently, Rusty holds the position of General Counsel for the South Carolina Bar, having also served in the past as the SC Bar President. In addition to his service at Saint Andrew’s, Rusty is a member of the Rotary Club of Greenville and serves as Secretary of their Board of Directors. He is also a board member of A Child’s Haven and Centre Stage Greenville.

This is an exciting time at Saint Andrew’s as we embark upon our next 125 years as we continue to be: Called to Worship, Sent to Witness, and Led to Welcome.

Lendy Rhodes, Vestry Nominee

I am Lendy Rhodes, and I was born and raised here in Greenville. I have been married to Laura for 41 years, and have two sons, Daniel and John. Our daughter in law, Brittany, has blessed us with two grandsons, Lenderman and Liam. I work for Prisma Health as an electronic technician. I’ve been a member of Saint Andrew’s for 6 years and have always found the people welcoming and loving. I look forward to serving the church on the Vestry.

Dear Project Host Friends and Supporters,

Lately at Project Host, we've watched the need grow-not just in numbers, but in faces and stories from right here in our community. With a potential delay in November SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits across South Carolina, many families are experiencing uncertainty about how they will access food in the coming weeks.

Altar Guild Volunteers Needed

The Altar Guild is currently looking for people who may be interested in serving with them. If you are interested, or have questions, please reach out to Doug Barrett.

Choir | Rehearsal on Sundays at 9:30 AM

We are always seeking additional volunteers for the Saint Andrew’s choir, which currently gathers on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM (and not on Wednesday evenings) to prepare the music for the 10:30 mass. This more limited time commitment provides an excellent opportunity for prospective new members to “try us out.” If you have questions, contact the Parish Office—or just show up on Sunday morning!

Volunteers Needed
