Regarding Urgent Food Need

in Our Community

Introductory Note from Fr. Gary: Over half a million South Carolinians depend on SNAP benefits to be able to put food on their tables each week, and those benefits are in danger of being cut off this weekend. Given that one of our primary missions as followers of Christ is to make sure that the hungry are fed, I am sharing the following note from our ministry partner, United Ministries, regarding their efforts to alleviate potential suffering in our community. I hope that you will join me in supporting those efforts in the days ahead.

A Note from Lizzie Bebber, President of United Ministries:

Urgent Food Need

Dear Saint Andrew's parishioners,

As more than 46,000 Greenville County Residents prepare to lose their SNAP benefits this weekend, we are reaching out to our community with an urgent need for food items in our pantry. There are so many in our community who are experiencing food insecurity and rely on food support to feed their family. Some of our most requested items are quickly dwindling and as we prepare for an increase in demand, we need your help to ensure our shelves are stocked!

Most needed food items:

  • Peanut Butter
  • Jelly
  • Canned meats: Salmon, Chicken, and Beef Stew
  • Canned mixed vegetables
  • Oatmeal (cans and individual packs)
  • Macaroni and Cheese
  • Canned Pasta
  • Ramen Noodles
  • Cereal
  • Saltines

Learn more about ALL of their pantry needs here.

Food can be brought to United Ministries Administrative Building, 606 Pendleton Street, Monday-Thursday, 8 am - 4 pm and 8 am - 11:30 am on Fridays. (Fr. Gary Note: You can also drop off at the Church on Sunday or during regular business hours, and we will get them to United Ministries.) If you prefer to make a monetary gift, 100% of the funds will go to purchasing food in bulk to ensure our shelves are stocked. Gifts can be made through this secure link

Thank you for being a valued part of our community. Because of your support, we are able to continue serving our most vulnerable neighbors and ensuring everyone in our community has access to food.

Gratefully,

Lizzie Bebber

We are now 4 weeks into our 6-week Annual Pledge Campaign, during which we ask parishioners and friends to prayerfully discern and complete a financial pledge card for 2026. As of October 29, we are grateful to have received 64 pledges totaling over $230,000. (Over half way to both goals!) If you have not done so already, please submit your pledges (by mail, the offering plate, or online—using the link below) by November 16, and help us reach our goal of 120 pledges and $370,000 in dollars pledged. Blessing of Historic Plaque with Bishop Richards

This Sunday, November 2 | 4 PM | Church Steps

As we continue to celebrate our 125th Anniversary, Saint Andrew’s welcomes Bishop Daniel Richards for a special episcopal visit and blessing ceremony today at 4:00 PM. Saint Andrew’s has recently been placed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing the church building’s historic and architectural significance. In commemoration, Bishop Richards will lead a Service of Blessing for the new historic register plaque, which has been installed at the church’s entrance. The short service will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall with light refreshments being graciously provided by our Daughters of the King chapter.

All Saints Sunday | This Sunday, November 2

The Feast of All Saints, on which we celebrate the lives and witness of all the saints of the church, is one of the four feast days that our prayer book designates as “especially appropriate” for Holy Baptism. Although we do not have any baptisms planned for All Saints this year, we will join in the Renewal of Baptismal Vows in the midst of our All Saints masses.

All Souls Day | Monday, November 3 | 12 Noon

We will celebrate the Feast of All Souls with Remembrance of the Faithful Departed. Please add the names of those who have died that you wish to remember. If you have a deceased family member or friend whom you want remembered in the midst of Monday's service but have not yet submitted their name, please click on the link below and submit their name by noon tomorrow (Friday).

Morning Prayer | Every Tuesday and Thursday | 8:30 AM

Morning Prayer has resumed weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 AM, unless otherwise noted.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for 3-to-9-Year- Olds | Continues This Sunday | 9:30 AM | The Atrium (upstairs in the Parish Hall)

We have begun our second full academic year of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd — an approach to Christian formation that builds upon Montessori methods of learning. With Catechesis, we seek to nourish and encourage that desire for deeper relationship—drawing forth both joy and wonder in the child. If you have any questions, feel free to speak with Fr. Gary or Cheryl Banks, who are serving as our lead catechists this year.

Second Sunday Harvest | Sunday, November 9

Mission and Outreach is dedicating our November Second Sunday Harvest to Thanksgiving food items. Our ambitious goal is a total of 100 items: 50 cans of yams/sweet potatoes and 50 cans of green beans. A collection table has been set up in the Parish Hall and items will be collected from now until Sunday, November 9.

Monthly ECW (Episcopal Church Women) Meeting | November 11 | 6 PM | Parish Hall

Join us for our monthly ECW gathering! We will share a spaghetti dinner and hear from one of our ministry partners, United Ministries. We will continue to collect cans for United Ministries, with a goal of 100 cans of green beans and yams or sweet potatoes for the Thanksgiving season.

Feast of Saint Andrew | Sunday, November 16 | Parish Annual Meeting with Potluck Lunch | Parish Hall | Noon

We will celebrate the Feast of Saint Andrew at both masses and then hold our Parish Annual Meeting with Potluck Lunch (meat provided, please plan to bring sides and desserts). Following lunch, we will review the accomplishments of the past year, plan for the upcoming year, and elect new vestry members and a diocesan convention delegate. Please see information regarding nominees below.

Coffee Hour

Volunteers Needed!

Please consider volunteering to assist with refreshments and set up for our coffee hour fellowship following the 10:30 AM Mass. A sign up sheet can be found on the “Welcome” bulletin board in the Parish Hall or online at the link below.

UPDATED: Parking at Saint Andrew's

For detailed parking instructions, click here.

***PLEASE NOTE - West End Baptist Church, which owns the parking lot around Saint Andrew's, has reduced the parking lot area available on Sundays to the area closer to South Main Street--with the back part of the parking lot (against Rhett Street) no longer available. As a result, please enter the parking lot via South Main Street. The map linked below has been updated to reflect that change.***

Note: You need a parking decal to park in the designated lots. They can be found on the shelf to the left of the doors as you exit the church.

Sunday Altar Flower and Presence Candle Dedications

On Sundays, we have the opportunity to offer a special dedication of the altar flowers or presence candle in honor, memory, or celebration of loved ones. The cost to the church for altar flowers is now $100 per Sunday, so we are suggesting that donations for dedicating altar flowers be in the range of $50 to $100 to help us cover those costs. The suggested donation for a presence candle dedication is $10.

If you would like to sign up for a Sunday, please see the sign up sheet on the bulletin in the Parish Hall or click on the button below. You may place a check in the offering plate with "Altar Flowers" or "Presence Candle" noted in the memo.

We will continue to only have Altar Flowers if someone has signed up and paid for the arrangements. As a result, we will need to know by the Tuesday prior to the upcoming Sunday if you would like to sign up.

Service Opportunities

Altar Guild Volunteers Needed

The Altar Guild is currently looking for people who may be interested in serving with them. If you are interested, or have questions, please reach out to Doug Barrett.

Choir | Rehearsal on Sundays at 9:30 AM

We are always seeking additional volunteers for the Saint Andrew’s choir, which currently gathers on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM (and not on Wednesday evenings) to prepare the music for the 10:30 mass. This more limited time commitment provides an excellent opportunity for prospective new members to “try us out.” If you have questions, contact the Parish Office—or just show up on Sunday morning!

Volunteers Needed

Feed Thy Neighbor

Founded in 2010, Feed Thy Neighbor is a cooperative effort of the Episcopal community in Greenville. Parish volunteers from Saint Andrew’s, St. Peter’s, St. James, and Christ Church feed the hungry each Saturday from 7:30 to 8:30 AM. We are seeking volunteers to help serve and clean up. Please contact the office if you would like to volunteer: office@standrewsgreenville.org.
