THE HISTORY OF THE CANDY CANE

A candy maker in wanted to make a candy that would be a witness to his Christian faith, so he made the Christmas Candy Cane. He incorporated several symbols for the birth, ministry, and death of Jesus Christ.

He began with a stick of pure white, hard candy. White to symbolize the Virgin Birth and the sinless nature of Jesus, and hard to symbolize the Solid Rock, the foundation of the church, and firmness of the promises of God.

The candy maker made the candy in the form of a "J" to represent the precious name of Jesus, who came to earth as our Savior. It also represents the staff of the "Good Shepherd" with which He reaches down into the ditches of the world to lift out the fallen lambs who, like all sheep, have gone astray.

The candy maker stained it with red stripes to show the stripes of the scourging Jesus received by which we are healed and for the blood shed by Jesus on the Cross so that we could have the promise of eternal life, if only we put our faith and trust in Him.

Unfortunately, the candy became known as a Candy cane – a
meaningless decoration seen at Christmas time. But the meaning is still there for those who “have eyes to see and ears to hear”.

Shootings, elections, COVID, and daily problems have all left us feeling unsettled and overwhelmed. Many of us have prayed more in the last year than ever before. We’ve prayed for safety, for healing, for peace. We’ve asked God what He’s doing and when the struggle will end. You have probably prayed for particular politicians, for your pastor and your church. So, to help you continue in your prayer life, below is a list of suggested things you should pray for:

1.   God’s Will, Salvation and Forgiveness
2.  Wisdom, Compassion and Love.
3.   Resistance to temptation.
4.   Pray For Your Enemies.
5.   Other Believers.
6.   Boldness to share the gospel.
7.   Spiritual impact.
8.   Healing and comfort.
9.   Daily needs.
10.  God’s perspective In Your Life.

Keep praying, God will answer you if your prayers come from a heart that seeks Him.

Remember, prayer is a powerful tool, so let’s start using it.

"Come After Me With Humility"

NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE

A middle-aged woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. While on the operating table she had a near death experience.

Seeing God she asked "Is my time up?" God said, "No, you have another 40 years, 2 months and 8 days to live."

Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital and have a facelift, liposuction, and a tummy tuck. She even had someone come in and change her hair color. Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she might as well make the most of it.

After her last operation, she was released from the hospital. While crossing the street on her way home, she was killed by an ambulance.

Arriving in front of God (again), she demanded, "I thought you said I had another 40 years. Why didn't you pull me from out of the path of the ambulance?"

God replied, "Sorry about that, I just didn't recognize you!"

Funny clean jokes/stories make every conversation better. If you have heard a "laugh-out-loud" joke or story and would like to share, submit them to [email protected] and your funny could appear in this column. Thanks for sharing.
