Board of Trustees welcomes new members

Tarboro residents Margaret Anne Wooten and Dr. Alvah C. "Chad" Cayton IV were recently appointed to four-year terms on the Edgecombe Community College Board of Trustees. In addition to the appointment of the new board members, Barbara Campbell Davis was reappointed to the Board for a four-year term.
Surgical Technology students already employed

ECC Surgical Technology Class of 2019 students recently participated in their pinning ceremony. From left are Caroline Paige Cobb, Lauren Baker, Jasmine Thomas, and Martha Riley Garris. These students will sit for the National Board for Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants Certification Exam after they complete the Surgical Technology degree in December. They have already completed requirements for the Surgical Technology diploma and are qualified to work in the field. All of the students are employed as surgical technologists in nearby healthcare facilities.
Longstanding trustee honored
James I. Taylor

James I. Taylor, a 36-year member of the ECC Board of Trustees, stepped down from his position on the board at the end of June. Taylor, a retired nurse, became a member of the Board of Trustees in 1983 and received an associate degree in nursing at ECC in 1984. College trustees and employees honored Taylor during a recent board meeting. He served as chair and member of the Personnel Committee and member of the Executive Committee, among other contributions. Students complete Manufacturing Academy
Students and local companies

The first class enrolled in ECC's new Advanced Manufacturing Academy recently completed the program. The class prepares students for careers in manufacturing and is a collaboration between ECC, Ramp East, and Turning Point Workforce Development Board. During the final class on August 8, students interviewed with local companies including LS Cable, Sara Lee Frozen Bakery, Manpower, and World Cat. Two of the students have been offered employment.
