Students gain professional and personal growth on mission trip
Connor Massey

What started out as a mission trip to help others turned into a learning experience of a lifetime for two Edgecombe Community College students. Connor Massey and LeighAnn Champagne spent a week last November in the Dominican Republic as part of a trip set up by Suzi Shippen-Wagner, their Surgical Technology instructor and chair of the program. "I went there with the mindset that I was going to swoop in and save the day, and it got turned around," says Champagne. "It made me more appreciative of what I have."
