Dear Families of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School,

Happy Friday! I want to take a moment in today’s Messenger to remind our families of our quarterly stewardship projects. As part of our school mission and the mission of our church, we are all called to serve. I am always blown away by the generosity of our families. Last quarter, our school participated in Books Between Kids. We collected 1,934 books. Because of our families, six books will be given to each child providing home libraries to 322 children! Thank you! This quarter, we will again participate in the St. Anthony’s Food Pantry Annual Thanksgiving Project. Next week, we will have boxes available with the lists of items being collected so that we can partner with our parish to feed families in need this Thanksgiving. We encourage you to have your children involved with this…. Discuss the need, maybe have them do extra chores to “earn” the items to put in the boxes, have them help with the shopping, etc. Additionally, this upcoming Friday, many of our students will make cards for some of our retired priests living at St. Dominic Village. We hope to make this a new service project that we continue for years to come. Thank you for all you do to share with your own students the importance of stewardship and ministry.

Only by His Grace,

Veronica Tucker

RECESS NOTES
There has been some confusion regarding recess. Our goal is to keep our Early Childhood and Elementary students in their homeroom cohorts all day including recess. With the opening of the playground this second quarter, students are playing in separate areas which is helping to be sure this happens. As a reminder, all day except during mask breaks and when eating, students continue to wear masks unless they are 6 feet apart. We look forward to the day when we no longer have to follow this requirement but want to do all that we have promised to do to keep our children safe and our school open. Thank you for your support and patience this year.
SCHOOL-WIDE STEWARDSHIP PROJECT
THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE
Help us make a family’s Thanksgiving Day celebration special! Each year St. Anthony’s Bread Food Pantry offers a Thanksgiving Box to families in need of assistance in the Montgomery County Area. We want everyone to have a healthy Thanksgiving meal on the table.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Take home a box (or 2 or 10) and fill it with the list of items found here and return it to us for distribution to area families in need. The St. Anthony’s Bread Food Pantry will provide the Turkey when distributing to the family, giving them everything they need to celebrate a day of Thanksgiving. Depending on where you shop, it costs an estimated $35 to $45 to fill a box.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Place canned (heavy) items at the bottom of the box and tape the top of the box closed.
After weekend Masses, find volunteers collecting boxes at the St. Teresa Center.
At all other times, drop off filled and taped boxes on the pallets at the St. Teresa Center.
The St. Teresa Center is located at 7985 Bay Branch Dr.

PICK UP EMPTY BOXES
During Morning Arrivals from Oct. 27 - Nov. 6th.

RETURN FULL BOXES
October 31 through November 15 at the St. Teresa Center. Volunteers will be available before all weekend Masses to assist with unloading packed boxes.

Help us reach our parish goal of providing 2000 Families with a full Thanksgiving Meal!

WALDO PHOTOS
This school year, we’re excited to partner with Waldo Photos, a photo delivery service where you can get all the photos of your student delivered straight to your phone! The moments you care about the most, captured by others, delivered to you. Waldo will bring another level of innovation to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School.

This optional service uses facial recognition and jersey recognition to find photos of your student, and then sends them to your phone via the Waldo app with notifications when new photos are found. Only one parent enrolls per student. You can then invite 6 other family members to also receive your student’s photos on their phone! *We know that masks may make the facial recognition difficult for us this school year but are excited to be able to have a web gallery to feature our school photos.

How to enroll: Text STAOPCS21 to 735-343 and follow the prompts.

Cost per student: $19.99 for 2020-2021 school year

You can also scroll through and view all the photos on the free web gallery here: https://waldo.photos/galleries. Enter the join code: STAOPCS21

FROM THE DESK OF FATHER TOM
Dear St Anthony of Padua Family,

We are proud to announce that the Our Lady of the Angels chapel project has been approved by The Woodlands Township! We plan to break ground on the new chapel in January.

As you may remember, the Our Lady of the Angels chapel is one of the major goals of the Horizon Campaign – an ongoing effort to ensure St. Anthony of Padua remains a place to build up families, gather as a community, and encounter God in prayer and sacrament. The new chapel will accommodate weddings, funerals, quinceaneras, and daily Masses, as well as provide a space to spread out during our crowded Sunday morning Masses. With a growing parish and spacing requirements brought on by COVID-19, the need for more room to spread out is more important than ever.

The Horizon campaign in still underway! The campaign went on hiatus in March, but the need to provide for the future of St. Anthony’s is still present. In the initial campaign push, we raised nearly $5 million in pledges from just 650 donors. That is only 9% of our parish family. I view the success of this campaign not only by reaching our $10 million goal, but by the participation of our entire community.

Soon I will ask you to consider making a sacrificial pledge to the Horizon campaign. Today, I ask that you join me in praying that God’s will be done through our efforts.

Yours in Christ,

Fr Tom Rafferty
Pastor
