Dear Families of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School,
Thank you to everyone who attended our Smart Families Presentations last Thursday. Dr. Crystal Collier had many important things to share regarding the safe use of technology and our role as parents in monitoring and modeling appropriate digital citizenship. (If you missed the presentation, you can also obtain information from Dr. Collier’s website: https://www.knowyourneuro.org.) For me, one of the best takeaways was that our children are watching us. It was a reality check for me to put the phone and laptop down and be more deliberate in being fully present to my children so they will then be able to do the same in their relationships.
This was the first of two parent events this year. The next parent event is the Family Code Workshop on Thursday, October 24th. This is an event for the whole family with dinner provided so please mark your calendars now. We will also have guest speakers for our 4th – 8th graders as well as classroom activities for our Pre-K – 3rd graders emphasizing this same theme in early October. As an administrator, trying to find the right balance in the use of technology in the classroom is a challenge and something we discuss often. While technology is certainly not going away, we have to always check that we are creating this balance…using technology as an effective tool while not over-exposing our students to technology and still using traditional education tools as well. Please be on the lookout for more information from Smart Families!
Only by His Grace,
Veronica Tucker
