September 12, 2025

Dear Families of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School,

Today, we had a campus-wide Intruder-on-Campus Lockdown Drill. In addition to our fire and severe weather drills, we conduct these security drills throughout the year. The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community are of utmost importance to us, and it is crucial that we are prepared for any potential emergency situation. Before these drills take place, teachers have discussed them with students and answered questions that they might have. When we have these drills, I announce over the intercom that this is only a drill. We then practice our response procedures in the event of a lockdown situation on campus. By conducting this drill, we aim to ensure that everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency and that we can effectively protect and safeguard all individuals on our campus.

During and after the drill, our teachers and staff take the time to explain the procedures to our students in a calm and reassuring manner. We understand that discussing lockdown procedures can be sensitive and may cause anxiety for some students, which is why we will approach this topic with care and sensitivity. It is important for our students to understand the importance of safety on campus and to feel prepared in case of an emergency.

We continually review our safety protocols and procedures. After the tragedy at Annunciation Catholic School and Church in Minnesota, particular focus has been given to our church building. As a staff, we have discussed our response if our sacred space becomes a target. This has been done in collaboration with our school officer. Additionally, the school has hired a second active-duty Houston Police Department officer to be present on Wednesday mornings. Please know that the safety of our students, staff and families is always at the forefront of our minds. Thank you for your partnership and support in making our campus a safe place.

Only by His Grace,

Veronica Tucker

Principal
