ANNOUNCEMENTS
Thank You
John and I and our extended family wish to thank you all for your care, concern, prayers, and cards during John's dad's illness and following his death. A tough time has been surrounded with love and warmth that we know to be because we are part of the Heart of Longmont family.

Thank you for sharing in this journey with us and know how much it meant having your support and your love.

Very sincerely,
John and Catherine Murphy

Additionally, I wish to thank you all for the outpouring of love and support during my recovery from hip replacement surgery. I continue to heal and am doing GREAT with my new bionic part! Your cards and well wishes cheered me and, as always, your love and affection humbles me.

Much love,
Catherine Murphy
Dear Church Family,

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! My family and I are beautifully overwhelmed by the outpouring of love that you all have given to us as we prepare to expand our family! The drive-by shower on Sunday was more than I could have imagined or expected! Every thoughtful card with words of wisdom and encouragement, every homemade gift, every diaper and wipe, and all of the clothes and supplies are such a blessing to my family! I have cried many tears of joy looking around at all that my family has been given and feel so very loved. I have prayed for many years now that I might get to be a mom to more children some day and it all is a dream come true. Thank you for every youth family who has trusted me with their own precious gifts over the years. Having a home at the Heart of Longmont is one of my greatest treasures. I couldn't imagine a better place to raise my family. My goal is to send each of you a hand written thank you note, and I appreciate your patience in how long that might take me. You all hold such a dear place in my heart. Thank you so much for everything!

Love,
Emily, Eddie, Charlotte, and babies Violet and Daisy

Please Welcome Eli to Our Staff!

The Heart of Longmont SPRC team is pleased to announce our new staff member: Eli Solt will start in October as Audio Visual Coordinator. This position is to help HOL move forward with our online technology. Even when we can meet in person again, it is clear that an online presence is an important addition to our mission. Eli will be working with our volunteer technical team to continue to create video content for our services and digital presence.

Eli is a recent graduate from the University of Northern Colorado, where he was an English major, with a minor in film studies. If you see Eli in the church, please make him feel welcome.
World Communion Sunday—October 4
We are celebrating in the Parking Lot!
World Communion Sunday is different this year with the COVID-19 pandemic. We plan on offering communion at noon in the church Parking Lot on Sunday October 4. We will have our regular YouTube worship at 10:00am and then invite you to join us in your car in the parking lot at noon. We have individual cups of juice and wafers that will be passed to participants in their cars, and we will partake together in a celebration of Christ’s presence with us.

Please let us know if you plan to attend. Fill out this short survey to let us know if you plan to attend and how many will be in your car so we can be fully prepared: https://forms.gle/fKDz7z5uH2AcWpUE9

Masks are required and we will observe social distancing. Participants will remain in their cars.

World Communion Sunday is celebrated annually by United Methodists and many other denominations. It is one of six special Sundays during the year where a special offering is made to our denominational work. This year donations to the World Communion Special Sunday offering equip U.S. students of color and international students to transform the church and their communities as both laity and clergy. Half of the offering benefits World Communion Scholarships for graduate students from the U.S. and other countries; the remainder assists Ethnic Scholarships for U.S. and international undergraduates studying in the U.S. and Ethnic In-Service Training. You can send your check to the office at 350 11 th Ave. Longmont 80501 and mark it for World Communion Sunday.
Kiteley Park Clean-up
At the start of the year, Reverend David challenged each ministry area and committee to find an opportunity to put more of God’s love into the world. This past Saturday, the Endowment and Planned Giving Committee (masks and all) spent time cleaning up the Kiteley Park. From right to left: Ray Allison (chair), Paul Johnston (vice-chair), Sue Shipp, Butch Howard, Becky Vancura and Rod Edmonds (yes, he knows he is the only one not properly wearing his mask).

Thanks to the team for their work, and a big thanks to the Kiteley neighbors that use the park. The park was remarkably clean!
Equal Exchange
Fair Trade Coffee
Equal Exchange (Fair Trade Coffee) allows small-scale farmers who grow Equal Exchange coffee, tea, and chocolate to control their own businesses, on land they own. This allows them to invest in education, health programs, and social services for their communities.

UMCOR partnered in April 2002 with Equal Exchange to help launch a denomination-wide coffee program and UMW of The Heart has been selling this coffee to the congregation and friends.

Proceeds from the sale of Fair-Trade Coffee Sales in 2020 totals $1,100
  • $300 kept for purchase of 2021 coffee
  • $800 to be spent on mission

In keeping with our Mission to support women, children, and youth, the UMW Leadership Team elected to send $200 to each of these local charities:

Please visit the websites for these local organizations to see what they do and how you can help.

If you would like to purchase Fair Trade Coffee, please contact Marge Clydesdale 303.485.5866, ml.clydesdale@comcast.net
Our Center Strongly Supported by HOL
In August, Long's Peak UMC invited the Heart of Longmont to help fill some of the items in the OUR Center food pantry. We accepted the invitation and agreed to collect toilet paper, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Together, with the food donations from Long’s Peak and our own donations from HOL 667 pounds of food and personal care items were collected and delivered to the OUR Center.

This is in addition to the wonderful contributions people from the Heart of Longmont made in April, May, and June where over 600 pounds of much needed food and supplies were collected from our congregation alone.

Thanks to all of you who have made a difference by putting more of the love of God into the world.
Children and Family Ministry Opportunity
We have a terrific opportunity to grow our family ministries program. We have contracted with Reverend Leanne Hadley who will lead a cohort of church members in rethinking our Children and Families Ministry.

Reverend Hadley is a vivacious and enthusiastic presenter who thinks outside the box and is current on the spiritual needs for the families of the 21st century. She has many years of expertise in working with children.

We are scheduled for Zoom sessions on the 4th Tuesday of every month from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Our first meeting will be October 27th. The training will last 9 months.

If you feel called to be a part of this exciting venture, contact the church office and we will make sure to add you to the list.
UMW 2020 Reading Program Readers
The Reading Program books for 2020 have been placed on the library table in the Gallery for easy check-out. Just fill in the book card and place it in the green holder on the table. When you bring the book back, please place the card back in the book and leave it on the table. I will need your name and the number of books read by December 1 st in order to submit the report to the District. The books are available for any interested reader, even if you are not participating in the program. However, I would ask that the books be checked out for a maximum of two weeks as we have few available books at the present time. The books can be accessed during church office hours or at any time if you have a key to the front door. If anyone has any questions, please e-mail me at sy3473@comcast.net or call me at 720-684-6185. Thanks so much and happy reading.

A Message from Heart of Longmont UMW
ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS!

United Methodist Women of the Heart of Longmont have sadly cancelled our Holiday Fair which is our biggest fundraiser of the year! We are struggling with possible fundraising ideas and COVID is not making it any easier!! We have also been unable to have our Feed Our Souls dinners for many months which contributes to our mission fund as well.

SO…if any UMW ladies have not had an opportunity to pledge for the year, please feel free to fulfill that pledge and send to the church office marked "UMW Pledge" or send directly to our Treasurer, Marge Clydesdale, at 3400 Feather Reed Ave., Longmont, CO 80503. If the congregation feels so inclined and wants to also donate proceeds you can do the same and mark as "UMW donation".

Thank you all so much for your continued support of our Mission projects near and far.

~Lynn Greenhalge, Leadership Team Coordinator

Longmont Meals on Wheels Needs Help
Dear Friends,

We wanted to be sure you know that Longmont Meals on Wheels continues to serve our senior and disabled neighbors hot, nutritious meals 5 days per week. Please let us know if you, or someone you know, could use a hand. Also remember, Project Homecoming - 5 free, home-delivered meals to clients of any age after hospital and rehab stays, and some medical procedures.

Longmont Meals on Wheels could use substitutes, long-term volunteers or people who are willing to help out right now while some of their other volunteers may not be comfortable delivering yet. Please keep in mind that any volunteers who begin now will be trained over the phone. Volunteer as often as 1-2 times a week or as little as once a month. We have a great system for no-contact meal hand off, ask drivers to wear a mask and provide hand sanitizer to use between deliveries. Call 303-772-0540 or find more info at: https://www.longmontmeals.org/volunteer

Calling all knitters, quilters, and sewers! We have the ambitious goal of collecting 400 lap robes for our home delivery clients for the holidays. If you would like more information, please contact Annie Christoffersen at annie@lmow.org or 303-772-0540.

Best Wishes from your friends at Longmont Meals on Wheels
