Book Study: Holding Up Your Corner
Mark your calendars! On Sunday, April 11, we will start a new book study using Holding Up Your Corner, by F. Willis Johnson, as the foundation of our discussion. This book provides a framework to how we can support people who have been victims of racial bias. Granted, many of us struggle to see how we can be part of the solution in addressing systemic race issues that have been in the headlines. After all, we live in Longmont Colorado; our community, largely Anglo-European, has a higher percentage of Hispanics than blacks and our life experiences do not mirror experiences in other parts of our country.

This book gives us a process, and through our discussion we will find ways to make a difference as well as find ways to put more of God’s love into the world.

For five weeks, we will meet for 90 minutes on Sunday afternoons from 2-3:30PM.

Watch for more details on March 4 including information on the book and study guide and a link to register for the class.
Boy Scout Troop 64 is celebrating a milestone this year, too! They are celebrating 100 years, and the first charter with the Methodist Brotherhood was January 31, 1921.

Due to COVID, Troop 64 will not be able to host their annual bake sale to raise funds. If you would like to support them, you may send a donation to:

Catherine Murphy sent these fitness videos to share in the Pulse. She says: "Friends absolutely LOVE participating in these programs so thought I'd share!"
While we may be stuck at home due to COVID and the frigid winter weather, these are some good tools to keep fit at home.
Help Wanted
It was not that long ago that the Heart of Longmont started broadcasting church services on the web to the congregation in the comfort of their homes. During that time, I have learned quite a bit about technology used to broadcast the service from the church and the requirements of receiving the service in the home. In addition, I have learned how much these broadcasts mean to my friends in the church during the loneliness of this pandemic. The greatest gift I have been given is the ability to go to people’s homes and video tape an interview to be broadcast during the services. I have heard that this is a gift to the congregation to be able to see and hear friends we haven’t seen in close to a year.

In order to get the word out and our church services seen by as many as possible, I need your help. If you get your church service on the web, great. There are households without access to the web but do have access to older technologies like a DVD player or Video Recorder. These are the people I am hoping to reach so we can try to get the service to them. If that is your household could you contact me and let me know how we could assist you. Give me a call and we can see if we can come up with a solution and get the service in your house.

I also need help with is getting people to interview. I have had good feedback on these interviews and comments on how nice it is to see how people are doing. You can trust me when I say that this process is painless and we haven’t lost anyone yet. I would ask each and every one of you to think it over and give me a call about setting up a one-minute interview.

Thanks,
Butch Howard

February Compassion Offering
2021 marks the 150th year of the Methodist Church in Longmont. Following a theme of “Honor the Past – Inspire the Future” leads a dedicated committee to remember & celebrate our rich heritage as we plan new ways to reach out to the community. Plans for honoring former pastors include a donation, designated by them, to one of our mission outreach agencies. Better serving our neighbor, the Kiteley Neighborhood, is a goal during our anniversary year. Special memories will remind us of our 150 years of service to our congregation, the Longmont community & our wider mission. A special book of memories is being prepared as a gift to all members. Your compassion offering gifts will “Inspire the Future” as we continue to put more of God’s love into the world. Please participate and enjoy this special celebration year.

Lenten Study:
Listen, Praying in a Noisy World
Join us for a special Lenten study on praying in a busy, noisy world. This study began February 17, and we will gather via zoom every Wednesday at 2PM until March 31 to develop our spiritual discipline of prayer.

We live in a world of noise. Everywhere we go, we hear sounds that compete for our minds and hearts. Listening to God requires a deliberate choice to shut out the chaos around us and focus our thoughts.

Listen, by Rueben P. Job, is a 40-day experience created to offer help to those new to prayer, those with a daily prayer routine, and those whose lives seem too busy to pray. With a focus on listening prayer and prayer as a two-way conversation, the experience will assist individuals and groups in building and deepening a personal prayer practice and spiritual discernment.

As we learn to listen, we find a new depth and fulfillment in our relationship with God and a new experience of God as guide and companion in our lives. The daily prayer pattern includes an invitation, silence, Bible reading, a story, guided time for reflecting and listening, and practical help for developing six specific prayer practices.

You can order the study book from Amazon or Cokesbury. But even if you don’t have the book, join us for the zoom discussion every Wednesday at 2:00 through March 31.

Lenten Food Drive
March will be Heart of Longmont's designated month for food contributions to the OUR CENTER. Your United Methodist Women have come up with an idea that might make it easier and/or fun to add an item a day to a box for 30 days during LENT beginning on February 17th. Our Kiteley neighbors will once again be invited to participate as well. THEN, on March 19th, the last day, you can bring your box to the church between 1 and 3 PM. IF YOU CANNOT BRING YOUR BOX, please call Lynn Greenhalge at 303-651-3911 and we'll arrange to come get it. This is yet another way our congregation is putting more of God's love into the world.

Thank you for your support!

Thank you so much to all of you that came out to support Troop 70274 on our opening day of cookie season! We felt the love!

Our hours will be changing for upcoming weeks. We will continue our drive thru from 11-1 on Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting (if it's cold and snowy, you won't want to be out and neither will we!).

If you would prefer a contactless porch drop off and you live in the Longmont area or would like to make a donation to the military in lieu of getting cookies, here is our troop link:

Our cookie proceeds always give us the opportunity to give some, through community service and service projects, spend some, we are looking forward to fun overnight adventures and horseback riding when we can get back to our new normal and save some for future activities.

Thank you so much for your support! It is greatly appreciated.
