ANNOUNCEMENTS
Asylum Project
October Compassion Offering
Dave and Jan Perry are providing asylum for two South American young women and helping them with the legal processes they need to remain in the United States. Our Asylum Project is supporting the Perrys as they provide food and lodging and other necessities for Francys and Taylor. The Heart of Longmont partners with Left Hand Church in Longmont to support this project. Here is a recent update provided by Dave Perry:

“The girls are doing great. Left hand church now "meets" Sunday at 5pm. The girls choose to participate in both HOL and LHC worship services. They have not missed any of these services and they pray with Jan and myself multiple times each day.

Pastor David, the girls want you to know how much they appreciate you sending your sermons in Español to them each week! They have made great progress with ESL classes and they volunteer often to say grace at meals; partly in English. They have been such a blessing to both of us!!

The CU Law Clinic is back from the summer break and there are now three law students assigned to their asylum case. One of these students is Jose, who is their good friend from Out Boulder who all 3 of us know well. Violeta, the Law professor is again involved. They had to go to the Peruvian Consulate to have POA documents drawn up for and sent to a relative who will collect copies of papers that were taken away from them by ICE.”

Your gifts for the Asylum Project help to defray expenses for Taylor and Francys. Mark you check “Asylum Offering” or “October Compassion Offering.”
Drive-In Communion Was A Success!
Over 30 parishioners participated in the Drive-In Communion held on Sunday October 4. It was also World Communion Sunday and we celebrated with a collection of international flags provided by Marty and Ray Allison.

The God’s House Band brought worship music to our time together. Karl Scott made the large loaf of bread used for the liturgy. Pastor David then handed out small cups of juice with a communion wafer to each participant and all partook together.

It was a beautiful day and many said they appreciated the chance to see others, even if they had to do it from their cars. Weather permitting we will do another Drive-In Communion on Sunday, November 1, at noon.

It's no trick! Heart of Longmont Children and Family Ministries invites you
to pop in for some Halloween fun!

This will be a fun, safe, and socially-controlled event held this Halloween, Saturday, October 31, from 1PM to 3PM.

This event will be outdoors in our parking lot. Masks will be required.

Kids will be able to pick up a goodie bag, a craft kit, and we'll have a couple locations for taking family photos. It's sure to be an afternoon of Halloween fun!
Registration opens Friday, October 16.
How can you help with our Halloween Event?

We need volunteers to drop candy, trinkets, and fun giveaway items (e.g. party pack sized Play-Doh or slime) in the barrel in the West Airlock between Friday, October 16, and Sunday, October 25. We are also allowing 100 people to register for this event in 20 minute increments with 10 minutes of cleaning between groups, so we need some volunteers to help out during the event!

The times we need volunteers are:

Set-Up—12-12:45PM—3 Volunteers
First Hour—1-2PM—5 Volunteers
Second Hour—2-3PM—5 Volunteers
Clean-Up—3-3:45PM—3 Volunteers

If you want to volunteer, or have any questions, please contact Misty Bone.
An Advent Gift From Heart of Longmont
Have you checked your calendar? There are only 2 months left until Christmas and a little over a month until we begin celebrating Advent! Yes, this will be an Advent and Christmas unlike any other, and we want to help you celebrate the season in new ways and to feel more connected as a church family. This year, we want to give each household an Advent Box, filled with devotionals and activities to make the most out of our weeks of Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace. This is NOT just for families, but for every single household.

These boxes are free, a gift of love from your church, and will be available for pick-up at church on two occasions: Wednesday, November 18th from 5-7 pm and Sunday, November 22nd from 12-2 pm. If you are unable to swing by the church to pick up your Advent Box, we have some HOL angels that will deliver to your door step.

If you have any questions, please contact Tricia Grafelman at 303-506-3678.
Adventurers Food Bank Volunteers
Our Adventurers Sunday school class spent a Wednesday afternoon down in Denver at the Food Bank of the Rockies putting together 300 boxes of food to be distributed to senior citizens in need. We packed 9000 pounds of food and provided 7200 meals. We made a couple of new friends who volunteered with us and we did our best to live out our Sunday school book Take This Bread, by Sara Miles.

Please contact Tricia Grafelman if you would like to join them on their next trip to the Food Bank. The need for food is higher than ever before and the volunteer base is very low due to COVID. We were in a large warehouse and social distancing was easy.

Please Welcome Eli to Our Staff!

The Heart of Longmont SPRC team is pleased to announce our new staff member: Eli Solt will start in October as Audio Visual Coordinator. This position is to help HOL move forward with our online technology. Even when we can meet in person again, it is clear that an online presence is an important addition to our mission. Eli will be working with our volunteer technical team to continue to create video content for our services and digital presence.

Eli is a recent graduate from the University of Northern Colorado, where he was an English major, with a minor in film studies. If you see Eli in the church, please make him feel welcome.
Children and Family Ministry Opportunity
We have a terrific opportunity to grow our family ministries program. We have contracted with Reverend Leanne Hadley who will lead a cohort of church members in rethinking our Children and Families Ministry.

Reverend Hadley is a vivacious and enthusiastic presenter who thinks outside the box and is current on the spiritual needs for the families of the 21st century. She has many years of expertise in working with children.

We are scheduled for Zoom sessions on the 4th Tuesday of every month from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Our first meeting will be October 27th. The training will last 9 months.

If you feel called to be a part of this exciting venture, contact the church office and we will make sure to add you to the list.
A Message from Heart of Longmont UMW
ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS!

United Methodist Women of the Heart of Longmont have sadly cancelled our Holiday Fair which is our biggest fundraiser of the year! We are struggling with possible fundraising ideas and COVID is not making it any easier!! We have also been unable to have our Feed Our Souls dinners for many months which contributes to our mission fund as well.

SO…if any UMW ladies have not had an opportunity to pledge for the year, please feel free to fulfill that pledge and send to the church office marked "UMW Pledge" or send directly to our Treasurer, Marge Clydesdale, at 3400 Feather Reed Ave., Longmont, CO 80503. If the congregation feels so inclined and wants to also donate proceeds you can do the same and mark as "UMW donation".

Thank you all so much for your continued support of our Mission projects near and far.

~Lynn Greenhalge, Leadership Team Coordinator

Longmont Meals on Wheels Needs Help
Dear Friends,

We wanted to be sure you know that Longmont Meals on Wheels continues to serve our senior and disabled neighbors hot, nutritious meals 5 days per week. Please let us know if you, or someone you know, could use a hand. Also remember, Project Homecoming - 5 free, home-delivered meals to clients of any age after hospital and rehab stays, and some medical procedures.

Longmont Meals on Wheels could use substitutes, long-term volunteers or people who are willing to help out right now while some of their other volunteers may not be comfortable delivering yet. Please keep in mind that any volunteers who begin now will be trained over the phone. Volunteer as often as 1-2 times a week or as little as once a month. We have a great system for no-contact meal hand off, ask drivers to wear a mask and provide hand sanitizer to use between deliveries. Call 303-772-0540 or find more info at: https://www.longmontmeals.org/volunteer

Calling all knitters, quilters, and sewers! We have the ambitious goal of collecting 400 lap robes for our home delivery clients for the holidays. If you would like more information, please contact Annie Christoffersen at annie@lmow.org or 303-772-0540.

Best Wishes from your friends at Longmont Meals on Wheels
