THE REVITALIZER

May 2026

As Mother’s Day approaches, we pause to celebrate the women who shape our lives with love, resilience, and sacrifice. But in the homes, we serve every day, “mother” is not just a title; it’s an act of courage.

It’s the grandmother on a fixed income, choosing between medication and fixing a leaking roof. It’s the single mom who notices the draft creeping through broken windows but wraps her children in blankets and reassurance instead of worry. It’s the caregiver who stays up at night listening not just for a baby’s cry but for the hum of an aging furnace she hopes will last one more winter.

For so many mothers, safety isn’t guaranteed. It’s something they fight for quietly, persistently, and often alone.

At Revitalize Milwaukee, we see firsthand that a home is more than four walls. It is where a child learns what security feels like. It is where families find rest, healing, and hope. And when that home begins to fail when steps become unsafe, heat becomes unreliable, or water finds its way inside the weight of that instability falls heavily on the shoulders of mothers.

Critical home repair is not just construction work. It is dignity restored. It is anxiety lifted. It is a mother finally exhaling because she knows her children are safe.

The need is constant. Roofs do not wait. Foundations do not pause. Broken systems do not fix themselves. And neither do the worries that come with them. Every day, more families face urgent repair needs they cannot afford and more mothers carry the burden of making impossible choices.

This month, we honor the mothers and grandmothers who hold their families together even when their homes are falling apart. Their strength is extraordinary but it should not be tested this way.

They deserve more than admiration. They deserve safe, stable homes.

And that is why our work must continue urgently, compassionately, and relentlessly.

Because when we repair a home, we do more than fix what’s broken.

We give a mother peace of mind.

We give a child a safer place to dream.

We give a family the foundation they need to thrive.

This Mother’s Day, let us not only celebrate mothers, let us stand beside them.

With gratitude,

Melanie Roach, CEO

Building Hope 2026

Building Hope Scholar: Damon Green

I found Building Hope almost by chance—through a simple conversation that ended up changing the direction of my life.

I’m 26 years old and I graduated from James Madison High School. I took my first steps into the trades through a manufacturing training program called GPS. That experience gave me a foundation, but life moved quickly.

I became a father, and with that came responsibility, urgency, and a drive to provide. I worked wherever I could in manufacturing, carpentry, and foundry work- learning along the way, but still searching for something more stable, something I could truly build a future on.

Finding Building Hope felt different.

This program means a lot to me not just because of the skills I’m gaining, but because of the environment. I’m surrounded by great classmates who are pushing toward their own goals, and our instructor, Jackie, brings patience, kindness, and real support to the classroom every day. That kind of encouragement makes a difference.

For the first time, I feel like I have a real opportunity not just for a job, but for a career I’m genuinely interested in. A path where I can grow, improve, and create long-term stability for myself and my family.

My goal is to continue building my skills and knowledge so I can pursue opportunities with a Fortune 500 company in the near future. I understand that it will take time, effort, and consistency but I’m ready for that. I want to become a skilled laborer, someone who takes pride in their work and continues to grow.

I’m not just hoping for a better future I’m planning for it. I have goals. I have a vision. I have a business plan.

And now, I finally have the direction to make it happen.
