Welcome Dr. Gwen!
White Pony Express' Newest Board Member

Quite a few years back, an inner-city doctor drove his family out to the country-side every Sunday. He’d take care of the farmers’ ills and aches and accidents and deliver their babies, while his kids played with the farmers’ kids in the fields and creeksides.
From stories of our beloved volunteers to our rapid response efforts, see how the White Pony Express community has made the news. Our circle of giving continues to grow, and we are grateful to the media for telling these important stories.
WPGS – A New Call to Service!

Change has been the name of the game this year, as 2020 continues to present both constraints and new opportunities to serve the community through our White Pony General Store (WPGS) program. With COVID-19 restrictions in place, we have answered the call to “refresh and reorient” our traditional model of holding large scale “Mobile Boutique” events in neighborhoods of need. Our new, adapted approach is to serve our participants through the following three channels:

  • Clothing & Care Closets - We currently have Clothing & Care Closets operating at Trinity Center, with plans to open in partnership with SHARE in Antioch, and the Homeless Action Coalition in Martinez. We are also working with school districts that serve low-income families to identify student needs and set up closets that serve them.
  •  Direct Distributions - including drive-through clothing giveaways to community partners and schools
  • Small, targeted boutiques for specific demographics - on hold until COVID restrictions are lifted
Volunteerism at WPE has no age limit!
This summer, we had everyone from children to seniors finding creative ways to support our work.

92-year-old WPE Volunteer Helps the Cold Weather Clothing Project

YuLi Chen turned 92 years young this year, and she is still finding ways to help her community. After the passing of one of her daughters, then her husband, she found a new project to pour her heart into – the White Pony General Store’s Cold Weather Clothing Project...

Our work is powered by partnerships and collaborations, and the funders who fuel our mission, day in, day out. A special thank you to the recent food donors, clothing donors and funders who have supported our COVID-19 Rapid Response efforts – we could not do it without you!
