ANAC announces next ED

The Board of Directors of ANAC is delighted to share exciting news: Shey Thorn, DrPH, MPH, has accepted the position of Executive Director of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care. He succeeds ANAC Executive Director Carole Treston, who is retiring Dec. 31. Read her departing piece in the Nov./Dec. issue of JANAC titled "The Power of Nursing" where she pays tribute to ANAC and nursing.

Latino HIV crisis worsens

A recent brief by the Center for Latino and Adolescent Family Health at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing describes how the Latino HIV crisis is now a cascading disaster. In public health, cascading disasters are particularly hazardous because health, social and political systems are closely intertwined.

PrEP webinar

ANAC members Brian Goodroad and Myra Rutland presented a webinar on Oct. 9 as part of ANAC’s partnership with Clinical Care Options (CCO). Practical PrEP Strategies: Patient-Centered Approaches for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals focused on strategies to expand PrEP and implement PrEP programs.

Nov./Dec. issue is out!

This issue features 10 articles that generate new knowledge that can help promote the health, protect the safety, alleviate suffering and uphold the dignity of women and girls living with or at risk for HIV. Though these articles span methods and geography, they share a commitment to asking research questions that that improve the holistic health of women throughout their lifespan and using rigorous scientific methods to answer those questions.

Good news for global HIV care

A new agreement will make the long-acting HIV prevention injection lenacapavir available in 120 low- and middle-income countries for just US $40/year. This is a major step toward equitable access and a powerful new tool for nurses and the HIV workforce worldwide.

New guidelines

Updated guidelines for the use of antiretroviral agents in adults and adolescents with HIV were updated on Sept. 25. The guidelines were updated by an HHS panel based on new clinical evidence. Additionally, a new chapter was added to the guidelines related to cardiovascular and metabolic complications in people living with HIV.

Chapter leadership list

All active chapters must submit their chapter leadership list to the national office by Nov 4. Outgoing chapter presidents are responsible for the completion and submission.


Gift card raffle

ANAC is asking that each chapter donate gift cards (any amount your chapter can afford) to the annual raffle held at conference next week. Please bring gift cards with you to conference and drop them at the registration booth. We hope for another successful year raising money toward the conference scholarship fund for 2026.

Study on language and HIV care

The Well Project is leading an IRB-approved study, "A Survey on Language and HIV Care for Women Living with HIV.” The purpose of this research is to better understand how language used in healthcare and service settings affects the lives and care experiences of women living with HIV. Find out more and share with your patients and colleagues.


ANAC member receives grant

ANAC member Shameka L. Cody received a $3.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, awarded through the National Institute on Aging. This five-year R01 award will fund a multisite clinical trial focused on improving sleep and cognitive function in older adults living with HIV.


Forward 2 Quit

Do you know trans and gender expansive folks who are struggling with quitting smoking? ANAC member Anthony Velasco invites you to learn more about Forward 2 Quit (F2Q): A study and web program created with and for trans and gender expansive folks taking steps toward a smoke-free life.

Member-Only Town Halls

The Oct. 22 ANAC Member-only Town Hall was led by ANAC Board Member Bridgette Picou, LVN and HIV advocate, along with the DEI, Membership and Policy Committees. We discussed critical healthcare policy changes and their impact on our work and communities. This was a unique opportunity for members to share experiences, ask questions and lean on each other as we face yet another critical shift in the healthcare environment.
