Lynn Beach, FNP Returns To UCSF

When Lynn was asked why she pursued employment at UCSF (again), she responded without hesitation "there are two reasons. The first is its excellence in nursing, and the second is UCSF's commmittment to the community."

Lynn's 25 year career has included working as an NP at Stanford, Kaiser Permanente San Francisco and San Rafael, One Medical, and City College. However, when asked about her UCSF RN and NP career, it includes the UCSF Pediatric ICU (2001-2005), Breast Oncology Cancer Services (2007-2012), Family Practice and Primary care at China Basin (2023-2024) and most recently as an NP with Adult Hematology oncology in San Mateo. Her ties to UCSF extend to her late grandmother who was a secretary at the School of Nursing but that is also where Lynn received her FNP (2004). Welcome back to UCSF Lynn.

UCSF HEALTH

H5N1: Avian Influenza

We want to inform you that there are now three confirmed cases of avian influenza (H5N1) in individuals who had exposure to dairy cows in California. Importantly, there is no known contact or link between these cases, suggesting that the virus is spreading from animals to humans, with no evidence of human-to-human transmission at this time.

As a reminder, here are some key points to keep in mind:

  1. H5N1 can present mildly and may show up as conjunctivitis.
  2. For patients presenting with upper respiratory infection (URI) symptoms and/or conjunctivitis who have direct or indirect contact with dairy cows and/or birds, including poultry, testing for avian influenza (H5N1) should be performed.
  3. Any patient with suspected or proven avian influenza (H5N1) should be placed on Contact, Droplet, and Airborne Isolation immediately.
  4. Please contact the Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Prevention (HEIP) team immediately if you encounter a patient with suspected or confirmed avian influenza.
  5. For additional resources on avian influenza, please visit the UCSF HEIP website. The CDPH press release is available here.

Your prompt attention to these guidelines will help ensure the safety of our patients and staff.

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals Nation's Best

For the ninth straight year, BCH has been ranked in all categories assessed in the annual survey, reflecting the exceptional quality of care our hospitals provide. We were ranked as the best children’s hospitals in Northern California for cancer care, cardiology and heart surgery, and urology. The hospitals tied as the No. 3 children’s hospitals in the state and No. 4 in the Pacific Region, which includes Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington. Our rankings improved in the four specialty areas of pediatric cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, neonatology and urology.
