From Epidemic to Endemic: Preparing Businesses for the End of the Pandemic
April 13, 2021, 8-9:30 am

This 1.5 hour webinar will provide participants with a contextual setting for the following 5 panel discussions. Using history as a guide, participants will explore past epidemics, how those epidemics impacted society, and how societies adapted to the various germs that caused epidemics and then became endemic nuisances, always on the cusp of causing a new epidemic. Through the examination of the Bubonic Plague, the London Cholera Epidemic of the 1850s, and the early 20th century Spanish Influenza Pandemic, similarities to the current COVID-19 Pandemic will be highlighted and discussed. Using these case studies, participants will identify and discuss ways in which these previous plagues can provide insight into how we must prepare for an endemic COVID-19. This session will then introduce the following 5 panel discussions spanning the rest of the year.

Students will begin their exploration with mostly abstract notions and will end up focused and activated, with real insights on what industries interest them, what specific jobs are like, and what education is required to do them successfully. Not all students receive career mentorship at home. For businesses, this is a chance to build your future workforce.

The JA Inspire Virtual program will be a coalition of educators and industry leaders in a virtual career exploration event that will be measured in student engagement and impact. Students will begin their exploration with mostly abstract notions and will end up focused, with real insights on what industries interest them, what specific jobs are like, and what education is required to do them successfully.

We invite members of RBTC to become event exhibitors and share your industry knowledge with students from across Southwest Virginia. Students are eager to learn about the careers and future positions available in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This is an opportunity to share your company’s newest products and innovations and spark the interest of local youth.
