WEEKLY NEWS
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN JUNE?
June is Pride month🌈

June is Pride month and with it we celebrate our diversity and inclusivity for the LBGTQ+ community. Read more about "A Vibrant Community" in the May/June 2021 issue of The Roanoker.

In honor of Pride month, the Roanoke Diversity Center is holding The Rainbow Run - a 5K event from June 2nd to June 30th. The event encourages participants to show their pride and allyship of the LGBTQ+ community while staying active. It is a virtual challenge that can be completed all at once or broken up to reach your mileage goal throughout the month. What a great way to celebrate and honor the community!

Some of the organizations offering support to this community are:
Ironman 70.3 - June 6

Suggestions to welcome the athletes to your business:

We want to celebrate the local community by offering surrounding businesses the opportunity to introduce themselves to thousands of athletes and their guests through our FREE promotional I'M Local campaign!

Print this poster to WELCOME the athletes, spectators, and visitors to Virginia's Blue Ridge. A copy of the poster can be picked up at the Chamber office, compliments of the Chamber! Call ahead to make sure we are there at 540-566-8812.

UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS
History Hunt SWVA - A Historic Scavenger Hunt | Memorial Day thru Labor Day 2021
The Botetourt County Historical Society & Museum is participating in this event.

Three hundred and fifty years ago, explorers Thomas Batts and Robert Fallam set out from what is now Petersburg on a quest to find a land route to the Pacific Ocean. Their journal records their visit to this region, making them some of the earliest—and perhaps the first—European explorers to reach southwest Virginia. This summer, sixteen history museums across the region are recreating that spirit of exploration with a scavenger hunt of historic proportions.

From Tyler H. Painter, Extension Agent, 4-H Youth Development, VCE-Botetourt

"As a result of 4-H camp being canceled last year and costs increasing due to the limited numbers, they are requesting assistance to send Botetourt County youth to camp this summer. Your sponsorship will be used to send children to camp that may otherwise be unable to afford the registration fees. Unfortunately, we were forced to raise the cost of camp to $340 per camper. We are appreciative of any monetary donations, regardless of the amount. We greatly appreciate your support and checks can be made to VCE-Botetourt." Read Tyler's letter here.
