Success Story: Building Confidence

One memorable success story involves a female teenager who first joined the Club as a very quiet and reserved member. During her first few weeks, she often stayed to herself, spoke very little to peers, and seemed hesitant to participate in group activities. Staff noticed that while she attended program regularly, she rarely engaged socially with others.

Her behavior began to shift when she enrolled in the Club’s pottery program. At first, she worked quietly and over time, staff noticed her growing comfort in the space. She began speaking more and staying fully engaged throughout each session. The hands-on, creative environment appeared to give her a sense of confidence and ownership.

A turning point came when she shared with staff that she had always loved art but had never shown her work to others. One afternoon, she brought in her sketchbook. She decided to share her drawings with a few peers. As other Club members looked through her sketches, they gave her compliments on her drawings. You could see the positive feedback from her peers meant a lot.

After that, the change was obvious. She smiled more and began interacting more with others. From that day forward, she became more engaged in programs and participated in group discussions.

Our Campers have weekly Pep Rallies, are awarded "Swimmer of the Week" and "Camper of the Week" and enjoyed fun trips to: Edelman Fossil Park, Hot Wheelz Skating, the FunPlex, Pinsetters Bowling, Sahara Sam's Waterpark, Adventure Aquarium and the Movies. Learn more next week.
