Greetings!
Let's discuss kidney friendly diet options!

Please remember: Everyone’s body has specific needs and not one person’s needs are the same. ALWAYS consult with your doctor or dietitian to find the right kidney friendly diet for you. The information provided in this newsletter is for educational purposes only.
How sodium affects people with kidney disease
"Although sodium is essential for the body functions listed above, too much sodium can be harmful for people with kidney disease because your kidneys cannot eliminate excess sodium and fluid from your body. As sodium and fluid build up in your tissues and bloodstream, your blood pressure increases and you feel uncomfortable."-DaVita Kidney Care
How can I reduce sodium in my diet?
"There are many herbs and spices that you can use to add flavor to your food instead of salt. Also, certain foods have more sodium than others. See the following table for some suggestions on how to reduce sodium in your diet."- The National Kidney Foundation

16 High Sodium Foods to Know About
"The recommended daily intake (RDI) for sodium in adults is 2,300 mg/day. For people with chronic kidney disease (CKD), a lower sodium intake of under 2,000 mg/day is recommended—though only your doctor can tell you what's right for you. On average, the daily sodium intake for Americans is about 3,400 mg/day, and you may be consuming much more than you even realize. To help protect your health, it's important to become aware of your salt intake and to focus on choosing low sodium foods, while limiting foods high in sodium. " - Fresenius Kidney Care
