Wednesday's VAST Speaker, Susan Cheal,
to be virtual by Zoom
|
Fall is here!
It is true that the season is changing, the temps are cooling down and trips to the pumpkin patch are just around the corner. However, the daily number of Covid-19 cases in Denton County have remained unchanged. The executive committee has met and decided that in an abundance of caution we will continue to meet by ZOOM for the remainder of the year. Our speaker this month is Susan Cheal. See the article below.
Meeting time is 6:30 pm.
Susan Cheal will be providing a presentation on Art and follow the presentation with a critique of several pieces of art.
There is still a lot going on in VAST so check out the website since it is being updated daily. Check out the collaboration with Historic Denton, Inc to add some art to street signs, and the totem pole project with the Woodturners Guild (still need a couple volunteers.) The calendars have been printed and they are ready for you to purchase for an early start on Christmas gifts.
The Members Exhibition has been installed, is open and it is an excellent show. The reception and awards presentation will take place on October 30. You may visit the exhibition which allows in person attendance pursuant to the GDAC-PAAC guidelines.
I hope to see all of you on Zoom on Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm.
Best Regards,
Barbara Lindley
VAST President

Calendar Sales Time!
A Lovely and Easily Attainable Gift for the Holidays

|
Please support VAST with the purchase of a calendar.
This is our biggest fundraiser and in this unusual year
we are in need of the support.
Each calendar page showcases a juried artwork, created by our own VAST members. It is an attractive CD case size packet that can be displayed anywhere.
They are ready for pickup! You can pay for them at "A Creative Arts Studio" on Hickory or Barbara Lindley's house (2016 Tremont Circle, Denton) or Carol Rowley's house at 3012 Pennsylvania Court, Denton. The price is $10.00 cash or check, or $11.00 PayPal. We know this is not as convenient as in the past but we are committed to making this a good year for calendar sales. Thank you!

"Off the Shelves" exhibition at Emily Fowler Central Library
New artist work up at Emily Fowler library! Dina Good's work is up at the library for approximately four months. Even though the library is not yet open to the public, the employees are enjoying the new art! Watch for the opening for patrons.
Dina’s Artist Statement:
As a Texan, I am in love with things that are big, open, and colorful, yet also subtle and nuanced. Through my artwork, I try to create tension and emotion through form, contrast, and light. Everything is captured in the spontaneous dance and movement of the paint as it connects to the canvas. While I make no attempt to portray actual places or scenes, I do want my paintings to suggest a viewpoint and create an emotion.
My work doesn’t reference recognizable form. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted. By examining the ambiguity and origination via retakes and variations, I create intense personal moments by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer round and round in circles as the meaning shifts and the emotion surfaces.

We are looking for artist submissions for solo shows and curated proposals for group exhibitions of professional level, innovative art.
Many of our most successful shows through out the year were submitted through SoCur, including this month’s Our Faces, Our Voices. Curators Raymond Wyatt said, “SoCur gave us an opportunity to create a show that we would have not be able to do in a for-profit gallery.”
