God of the Universe,

make our hearts porous.

Open our eyes, as if for the first time, so that we might see your world

with awe and wonder.

In doing so, we will not only find you in the hallways of our thoughts,

but in the pathways of our hearts.

With gratitude we pray: keep us open, keep us amazed.

With God’s help, may we bring joy into a weary world.

AMEN.

β€’

We are grateful, O God, for the generous giving to our β€œMitten Tree”. There is still time to give!

We pray mightily for our world, Loving God β€”

for all the

strife-ridden corners where your care is so desperately needed. Bring hope, joy….

β€’

We thank you with Brian,

O God for his new job.

This is a great joy

for a wonderful job!

We pray with Debbie

for homes where

there are troubles,

especially when this

involves young people.

We pray, O God,

for your guidance

and love to fill the hearts

of all who care for

all our children, young and old.

We pray with Jean

for her husband Mike

who is still hospitalized

following surgery last Thursday.

Mike had the bottom

half of his left leg amputated.

He will have more surgery

coming to cover the bone,

thus a 3-6 months of recovery.

He is still fighting infection,

which is relentless.

In 16 months he will

receive a prostheses.

He and Jean

are in need of mighty

prayers, O God.

It is to You we come

for strength, hope, support and love.

O God, we pray with Cynthia

for those who cannot

be with their loved ones

at this special time.

Bring joy, we pray

to fill all hearts

with the reassurance

that love abounds!

We give thanks with Nancy,

Gracious God, that Mark

has made it safely to Taiwan.

He is able to have loving visits

with his son and daughter-in-law,

as well as visiting with Alex Selikoff. We pray for beautiful visits

and a safe return.

We give you thanks,

O God, that Nancy has

returned safely to us

from her recent travels.

We give you thanks with

β€œSunshine” that he was able to extend kindness to someone this morning.

We pray for Emily.

She needs you, God,

to be with her

to regain strength.

We pray for love, hope, and joy.

We pray with Diane A.

May her weakened heart receive

new strength.

She had a pacemaker installed

this past week.

May she know that You

are with her, Gracious God,

for comfort, healing, love, and joy.

We pray for Shirley’s nephew Bryan

as he travels to Atlanta

to be with his fiancΓ©.

Safe journey, O God,

for the coming and going

for dear Bryan.

We feel the joy for families,

O God, with Aaron,

for β€œSchool's out!”—

and for parents β€” "School’s out!”

The Breakthrough Prayer

God of oak trees and rivers

we are filled with gratitude and hope.

ο»ΏWe thank You for planting us in

the Longfellow neighborhood.

Through generations we have shared

the good news of Jesus

and the power of laughter and tears.

We ask for an awareness

of Your power of moving in our midst.

Help us to open

our hearts and imaginations.

Stir us to dream boldly.

Kindle in us the fire of Your love.

Empower us to live possibility.

We pray through the powerful and

present heart of Jesus.

ο»Ώ

Amen.

Amazing Peace:

Bishop Lanette's 2023 Christmas Video Message

The Hebrew word we translate as peace is β€œshalom,” which does not mean calm nor the absence of conflict.

Instead, shalom, peace, is the result of right relationship with God, one another, self, and even with creation.

In her 2023 Christmas message, Bishop Lanette Plambeck reflects on what peace looks like and how we can center ourselves in the promise of peace, and she shares a Maya Angelou poem that she invites us to lean into as we approach Christmas.
