A Message from Andy Anderson, MD, MBA
Chief Medical Officer and Quality Officer
Dear Colleagues,
Saturday, April 29 was a momentous day for RWJBarnabas Health.
With our successful Wave 4 Go-Live, we moved one step closer to a fully unified system. We now have a single health record for patients at eight RWJBH hospitals, including Somerset, New Brunswick, Hamilton, Rahway, Jersey City, Community, Monmouth, and Monmouth South; Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ); Eric B. Chandler Health Center; Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School; RWJBH Behavioral Health Center; and hundreds of affiliated medical practices throughout the enterprise.
This unification brings a single medication and problem list record for each patient, empowering providers with a dynamic and powerful tool for enhancing patient care.
Though it is an exciting time, we realize you may be feeling apprehensive, anxious, and overwhelmed. These feelings are normal. Mastering the robust features of Epic is very similar to the journey to becoming excellent clinicians -- ongoing study, practice, and personalization are essential. Investing the time and setting the right habits will pay tremendous dividends in the long run.
No one expects you to be an Epic expert immediately!
There will be plenty of support to guide you through the first few weeks following Go-Live. You will not be alone:
- Our Provider Support Team, wearing red vests and lanyards, are onsite and ready to help.
- “Providers Only” Technical Support and Assistance is available 24/7 at 855-453-1948
- For training questions, call the Epic Training Provider’s Hotline: 732-658-4820 (Monday – Friday / 8 am – 4 pm)
- For Epic issues and to make enhancement requests, use the “Get Help” drop-down in the top right corner of your Epic screen to submit a ticket.
The months of Epic training have been challenging, but your ongoing enthusiasm and dedication ensured the success of this implementation. I couldn't be prouder.
Sincerely,
Andy Anderson, MD, MBA
Chief Medical Officer and Quality Officer

Complete Minimum Personalization Requirements
Leverage Personalization to Increase Efficiency in Hyperspace!
Personalization is one of the most powerful features of Epic and allows you to set up Epic to suit your individual needs.
You are required to do at least the minimum personalization consisting of:
- Create at least 1 SmartPhrase
- Favorite at least one order
However, the more personalization you do, the more efficient you will become and the less time it will take to complete your work.
Other helpful Epic Personalizations are:
- Create SmartForm macros
- Create and Organize Preference List Sections
- Create Order Panels
- Create user versions of order sets
- Favorite frequently used Charge items
Click here to review the Ambulatory - Personalize Your User Settings Tip Sheet.

Remember to Go Reconcile Outside Records
-
It is imperative to click Go Reconcile, validate, and reconcile clinical data from outside records.
-
You can access Go Reconcile from the Admission Navigator or the Problem List
-
You will have opportunity to validate and reconcile PAMI (Problems, Allergies, Medications, and Immunizations) data in the Go Reconcile workflow.
- Failure to Reconcile this important clinical data may cause possible patient safety concerns, as the chart may not be complete.
