All of us have some memory of being cared for by an adult when we were little and couldn't care for ourselves. Those memories are the ones that give us trust in the world around us They are the ones that make us feel safe in an untrustworthy world. Those memories are the ones that instill in us a sense of safety and inspire us to learn how to take care of ourselves and others. The ones who care for us when we are little are usually the ones we 'belong' to...and even if they aren't relatives by blood, they certainly can inspire within us a sense not only of being cared for and loved but a sense of certain people...the ones who care for us.
