I am pleased to be able to tell you that already our Global Sourcing Business is really taking off. As I talk to companies they quickly come to realize the many advantages of letting us be your Global Sourcing Guide. We are gaining more customers and yes we are attaining more qualified suppliers that we have been able to vet and register and add to our offerings portfolio.
We are also expanding our global resources far beyond China including Thailand, Vietnam, Korea and of course India.
If you have any global needs for moldings to transformers, from PCBs to assemblies, from Cables to wire harnesses please contact me ASAP and I am sure to provide you what you need, when you need it and at (yes I can say this) the best price value on the globe.
By the way I just launched my new column Global Sourcing Spotlight in May. It will now be available every month in I-Connect 007.
Here is the announcement:
ASC’s Bob Duke launches Global Sourcing Spotlight a new column focused on Global Sourcing aptly named Global Sourcing Spotlight, where he will be discussing and offering advice on the various important aspects of global sourcing. Bob has many years of experience in this area having been a principal at M-Wave for many years.
The column will cover everything from how to find, survey and qualify the right offshore
partners. How to develop strong and productive partnerships with those companies, and how to help companies make sure that they are getting the very best value from all of their offshore suppliers.
He will cover the complete global supply chain for everything from PCBs and PCBA’s to
moldings, transformers, batteries and other products and services.
Bob had this to say about his new column, “My intentions is to offer people and companies
advice on how to successful set up their own supply chains making sure that all of the links in the chain are as efficient and strong and lasting as possible. My goal is to provide this column as a resource for all those companies who are looking to operate on a global platform. I hope that people will not only read the column but I would also encourage to reach out to me with their own global sourcing challenges and issues”
The Next Global Sourcing Spotlight is scheduled to appear in I-Connect 007 in June
Here are is a preview from that column:
Here are the 6 steps I take when selecting and qualifying the right sources:
- Finding the right source in the right place. No, not everything you need is in China. You don’t just go to China, find what you want and do a mic drop. Oh no. China is certainly a great place to start, but not the only place. I have found that to have a good, well rounded supply chain I have to deal with companies in Thailand, Hong Kong ( I know practically China, but not quite yet), Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, The Philippines, Malaysia, and India. And that’s just for now.
- Then I match the sources to the commodities I am sourcing and find the best suppliers in each country, companies that can meet my needs.
- Then I have to qualify these sources. No Cletus it’s not just a matter of scattering a bunch of quotes around the world and giving the business to the first one in with the cheapest quote. No not at all. Even before I sent out the quotes, even calibration quotes, I have to make sure that these customers meet my needs in all ways by qualifying them. I do this, I have developed a comprehensive survey that my potential sources have to fill out. I have to check out their customer references. I have to verify their qualifications and certifications such as ISO, QS, TS, and UL. Then I attain their financial data and public information. It does no good for me to qualify a company that is about to go out of business.
