Fulton Country DA will decide if Trump is charged criminally

By Joseph Green-Bishop

Texas Metro Correspondent

The fate of former President Donald J. Trump will be decided in part by a grand jury report which is scheduled to be released in a Fulton County, Georgia courthouse today. The panel has been guided by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis,

Ms. Willis, a veteran prosecutor, received the grand jury’s findings about ten days ago. She is scheduled to be present in the courtroom where Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney will preside.

It is expected by some legal experts that Ms. Willis’ office will indict the former president and some of his associates for their actions after the 2020 election which Mr. Trump lost to President Joe Biden.

Key to an indictment is Mr. Trump’s participation in a recorded phone call during which he asked Georgia election officials to use their influence to change the election results, according to elections experts.

During the call, Mr. Trump is heard asking officials to find him

additional votes, enough to make him the winner in Georgia which he also lost to President Biden. Georgia officials refused the former president’s request.

During the call they told Mr. Trump and his allies that the final election count was accurate and that there was no evidence of election fraud as charged by Mr. Trump and two of his allies, former New York City Mayor Rudi Giuliani and John Eastman, an attorney who advised Mr. Trump during the election. The Georgia election officials, like the former President, are members of the Republican Party.

Some legal experts who have followed the Georgia proceedings have called them the most severe legal threat that Mr. Trump faces. If he is indicted, Mr. Trump’s proposed run for the White House in 2024 could be substantially damaged, if not derailed completely derailed, members of both major political parties have said.

District Attorney Willis has previously said during interviews that the grand jury was examining charges of racketeering, election fraud, conspiracy and acts of violence resulting from election interference.

Another area of review for the grand jury was an action by Mr. Trump and his allies to cast aside duly selected Georgia electors who were pledged to vote for Mr. Biden in the Electoral College, and instead use a list of electors that were committed to Mr. Trump.

District Attorney Willis has previously stated that the evidence her office received, and that the grand jury reviewed, was credible. “If indicted and convicted people are facing prison sentences,” she said.
