Dear Philip,
A few weeks back, I was in Boulder, Colorado, for an extraordinary conference I attend every year. Highly tenured current and former Vistage Chairs have been gathering for each of the past 18 years to enrich our lives and the lives of leaders through the work we do and find inspiration and deeper meaning through two and a half days of thoughtful and provocative dialogue. I have been attending Keepers of the Flame since 2015 - having received my first invitation following my tenth year as a Chair.
The mission is "A time for 10+ year experienced Chairs worldwide to share their story, their journey, and their wisdom with people they highly regard but seldom see." It is a time for "Renewal of mind, heart, and spirit. We come to continue our growth and share the journey connecting each of us through our work and our calling. We come to listen from the heart and honor the intentions of our founders."
Many of my personal heroes attend each year - some with as much as 50 years of experience under their belts. It reminds me that this work - like life in general - is a journey. And while KOF is an annual destination - the experience is always transcendent and transformational. The values we share,
- Trust
- Truth
- Confidentiality
- Self-Acceptance
are the same as we embrace at ALPS Leadership, and the time spent brings me home brimming with ideas, excitement, hope for the future, and insatiably hungry to keep learning and growing.
The real value is not measured in the benefits to me - but in the renewed commitment to use the work to benefit the leaders that benefit many others.
I also had an opportunity to spend some time with my daughter, who joined me in Boulder to enjoy some hiking at Chautauqua Park and then an amazing concert event at the Red Rocks Amphitheater just outside Denver.
