HEALTH SPOTLIGHT: National Stress Awareness Month
| | |
Farming is more than a job – it’s a way of life. But with that life comes a unique set of challenges that can take a toll on both body and mind. Long hours, financial strain, physical labor, and unpredictable weather are just a few of the stressors farmers and farmworkers face every day.
As we recognize National Stress Awareness Month this April, it's a good time to shine a light on the pressures within the agricultural community – and the importance of prioritizing mental and physical well-being.
Tips to Help Manage Stress:
-
Take Breaks - Even a few minutes away can help reset your body and mind.
-
Reach Out - Whether it’s a neighbor, family member, or mental health professional, talking helps.
-
Prioritize Your Health - Fuel your body with good food, sleep, and movement. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
-
Stay Organized - Tackle your day with a plan. Setting realistic goals makes a big difference.

TTFH PODCAST: Why You Should Keep Naloxone on the Farm
| | |
In this episode of Talking Total Farmer Health, our host Linda Emanuel speaks with Dr. Tara Haskins about the importance of keeping naloxone on the farm. Check out this episode to hear about what naloxone is, who it helps, and why it's important to have on hand!
Did you know that in 2023, there were 105,007 drug overdose deaths in the United States (CDC, Dec. 2024)? And in 2022, 76% of U.S. overdose deaths were due to opioid use (CDC, March 2024). Opioid overdoses are reversible – having Naloxone on the farm can save a life.
