HEALTH SPOTLIGHT: National Kidney Month

Did you know that dehydration, high blood pressure, and diabetes are major risk factors for kidney disease? For agricultural workers who spend long hours in the sun, these risks can be even higher. Taking care of your kidneys is essential—not just for your own well-being but also for continuing the vital work of feeding the world.

This National Kidney Month, take simple steps to protect your kidney health:

  • Stay Hydrated – Drink water consistently throughout the day to prevent dehydration.
  • Eat Smart – Choose kidney-friendly foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, and limit salt intake.
  • Monitor Your Blood Pressure – High blood pressure is a leading cause of kidney disease, so regular checkups are key.
  • Pay Attention to Warning Signs – Persistent fatigue, swelling, or changes in urination could signal kidney issues—don’t ignore them!

Your health matters. This March, make kidney care a priority!

Over 500 individuals attended three learning sessions on raising awareness of behavioral health concerns in an engaging and effective way leads to stronger, healthier farm families.

Did you know that in 2023, there were 105,007 drug overdose deaths in the United States (CDC, Dec. 2024)? And in 2022, 76% of U.S. overdose deaths were due to opioid use (CDC, March 2024). Opioid overdoses are reversible – having Naloxone on the farm can save a life.
