Time Study
UCSF and BCH Oakland advanced practice providers are required to complete monthly Time Studies for hospital reimbursement. A mandatory
UC Learning Module has been created to train you on accurate Time Study submission and must be completed by 5pm Friday May 12, 2023. The module will take approximately 20. Completion will be audited by the Office of Advanced Practice Providers.
Oakland APPs began Time Studies in January of 2023. UCSF APPs will begin Time Studies in May of 2023. Time Studies are a federal requirement (brief description below) for hospital reimbursement and will take place on a rotating week each month. Please reference the Office of Advanced Practice Providers Website for additional information. If questions, email AdvancedPractice@ucsf.edu.
State Plan Amendment (SPA)
The SPA 05-023 was approved by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on December 21, 2007. It is part of the State Waiver to supplement payment for underfunded and unfunded care. The SPA allows for interim supplemental payments to reimburse for the uncompensated cost of providing professional services for inpatient and outpatient care to Medicaid (Medi-Cal) beneficiaries. From the outset of SPA, CMS dictated that a Time Study Audit must be performed by each UC Medical Center to confirm professional time spent on patient care, underfunded care, and on non-reimbursable activity.

National Nurses Week
This week UCSF is celebrating National Nurses Week.
Nurses comprise almost one-third of UCSF Health’s employees. They are the people who spend the most time with our patients and families, who rightly earn their highest trust and respect at their most difficult times. Not surprisingly, according to Gallup, nurses continue to garner the highest ethics rating from Americans among a diverse list of professions, a distinction they have held for more than two decades.
Their compassion and expertise are a primary reason why so many patients choose to be seen at UCSF Health. And their courage and selfless actions during the pandemic to help others - not just here but across the country - are legendary.
UCSF nurses’ dedication to their profession also resulted in UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco earning the prestigious Magnet designation for excellence in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for a third time.
There are many activities planned this week to celebrate nurses, and you can show your support in the following ways:

Inpatient Hand-off--effective today, May 9th
All inpatient providers who use the signout or handoff tools need to transition to using the APeX Handoff Tool. Click here for tip sheet for the handoff tool.
This tool will take the place of all other signout workflows, including the Sign Out Notes Primary Team and the Sign Out Notes for consultants. If you are using these other workflows, you will need to switch to using the Handoff Tools. The tip sheet demonstrates how to: create and edit the handoff, how to add columns to your patient lists, and how to print the handoff and handoff report.
Today, May 9th, the Sign Out Notes reports will become “frozen”, such that they are no longer editable. On May 10, most fields in these reports will be deleted. The one day of overlap will allow time to copy over any important information. Reason for Change: Epic is continuing to develop Handoff and the Handoff is available in Haiku unlike Signout Notes Primary Team. It’s also saved per context (e.g. DHM and Surgery can both edit Handoff and have it show up differently for each specialty).

MyChart Results Release--effective today, May 9th

Results that may reveal a new diagnosis of cancer, HIV or hepatitis will be delayed 5 calendar days. Ordering clinicians should ensure that these results are communicated to patients within 5 calendar days.
