The Magic of a Book Recommendation
I love this time of year. It is a time to gather with friends and loved ones, prepare for winter’s chill and escape into your next favorite book. The human connection feels more important than ever in this age of AI and algorithms. What better place to encounter the shared human experience than walking into an independent bookstore, each unique in its own way. When greeted by one of our many booksellers, often busy restocking shelves, creating in-store displays, or organizing our next in-store event, I’m delighted at the possibility of discovering my next favorite book.
I personally enjoy the hunt, reading back covers of hundreds of titles, in search of my next read. Owning the bookstore feels like a limitless journey of discovery. It is genuinely a gift to learn from one of our booksellers who already experienced the exact title gripped in my hand. To me, it’s an invitation to experience something magical alongside a fellow reader.
I’m regularly browsing our Staff Picks wall, reading each of the title’s back covers along with the personalized and informative description of how that book might speak to me. I am also able to find book recommendations on our website for those times I’m away from the shop.
So in the spirit of connection and shared interests, I invite you to experience the same in our Doylestown and Lahaska Bookshop locations. Find out what our booksellers are reading, ask them what they enjoyed most about their recommendation, and don’t be surprised if they hand the title to you. Our connection to each other is something we shouldn’t take for granted, and what better way to experience that connection than through reading a recommendation received at your local independent bookstore.
Sincerely,
Damian Ford- Co-Owner
