Ventura secures $32 million for innovative housing project


On October 10, 2023, a historic $32 million grant was announced for Ventura in Project Homekey's third round.


The City, Housing Authority, and County of Ventura are partnering to transform La Quinta Inn into a permanent supportive housing project, offering 134 apartments and on-site wraparound services, for individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.


Ventura Mayor Joe Schroeder remarked, "This is the largest Homekey award in our City and County's history, and will make a substantial impact on our community."

Calling all mosaic artists!


Interested in showcasing your art around town? The Mosaic Trashcan Project will enhance four cement trash cans with mosaic art in the Pierpont Community.


Artists and artists organizations, with professional experience in mosaics are welcome to apply for this exciting new public art opportunity.


This project is funded by the Pierpont Community Council. Applications are due Friday, October 27, by 5:00 p.m.

Extended lane closure on northbound 101


The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has closed the left lane on the NB 101, south of California Street, through spring 2024 to replace an underground pipe that is causing wet roadway conditions for motorists.


Two right lanes will remain open but expect delays. The project is expected to be completed before or by spring 2024.

Take the underground utility survey

Interested in undergrounding utilities? 


Southern California Edison has allocated funds to underground overhead utility lines for a stretch of 500-1500 feet along a major road or one with limited wheelchair accessibility in the City of Ventura.


The City Council values your input in deciding how to prioritize this project.


Participate by completing this brief survey and share your recommendations considering factors such as accessibility, safety, and well-being and boosting economic development.

Register for the next Community Cleanup & Recycling Day on October 28

Free Clean Up and Recycling Day for Residents


Our next Community Cleanup & Recycling Day is Saturday, October 28, from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. at 765 S Seaward Avenue.


City of Ventura residents are invited to drop off unwanted items (big and small) for proper disposal and recycling. We will be accepting all waste types except household hazardous waste and tires.

Sustainably dispose of your pumpkins and have fun with the whole family


Join this year's Pumpkin Smash & Compost Party on Sunday, November 5, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Cornucopia Gardens, located off Telephone Road near Johnson Drive.


Dispose of your pumpkins after Halloween and other fall festivities, and embrace sustainability at our annual event.


What to expect: 

  • Pumpkin smashing fun
  • Learn about composting 
  • Help maintain the compost pile
  • Garden tools will be provided
  • All ages are welcome
