We had a busy month in May. We had a tent at Davidson's Town Day and met new volunteers, enjoyed an outing to a Charlotte Knights game, learned more about the buildings on Davidson College campus, thanks to alumnus Gus Succop and had a fantastic breakfast with MANY friends at The Egg.

Join us for a Social Bridge. "Two components of bridge promote healthy aging and therefore make it an ideal game for seniors. The combination of these two key components sets bridge apart from many other leisure time activities for fostering a happy, active, and healthy brain."-The Second Half: A Lifelong Learning Institute.

We're looking for players who may be rusty....even very rusty...but know the basics to play. If we have a table of four or more we'll set a time and day soon to meet at Beth's house to give it a try. Contact Beth at bethmillerquinn@gmail.com

Yoga & Meditation: Tuesday & Thursdays at 9am

Make time to take care of yourself. Join our volunteer, Laurie Walker, for meditation and/or yoga online. In addition to whatever is going on in your personal life, we are all living in the middle of so many converging issues – health, geopolitical, environmental, and more. If we are going to thrive – we have to increase our resilience. Regular yoga practice is a powerful vehicle to do just this.

You will find tools of breath, movement, and meditation that promote a sense of calm resilience.

  • Yoga classes are on Zoom Tuesdays and Thursdays from April 26-June 9 at 9:00 a.m. EST.*
  • Meditation Circle meets Tuesdays from April 26-June 7 at 10:15 EST.*

SCC members receive complementary access to the courses. Email Laurie for more info. at laurie1059@gmail.com

Sea-Fever
By John Masefield
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by;
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.
