Celebrating New Beginnings: December Home Dedications

In December, we had the joy of celebrating two special milestones—home dedications for Leslie in West Ashley and Shonna in McClellanville. These moments marked the culmination of months of hard work, partnership, and perseverance, and the beginning of a new chapter for both families.

Surrounded by Habitat staff, volunteers, supporters, and loved ones, Leslie and Shonna officially received the keys to their new homes—places where memories will be made and futures strengthened. Each dedication was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together to build safe, affordable housing.

We are deeply grateful to the generous partners and individuals who helped make this season so meaningful for our new homeowners. From every set of hands that helped build these homes, to every donor who gave vital dollars, to the incredible community that wrapped these families in care and support—thank you. Because of you, these houses truly became homes, and the holidays were filled with hope, warmth, and new beginnings.

Thank you to the South Carolina Stingrays, Blanton & Sons, and Terminix for providing Leslie with a beautiful Christmas tree and thoughtful housewarming baskets to ensure she had everything she needed for the season. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Karen Crapse and Jessica Strimpfel for Shonna’s Christmas tree, Tana Lee with Pyramid Contracting for her festive outdoor decorations, and Emily Cadwell for the generous furniture and décor donations. Your kindness helped turn these houses into welcoming homes during the holidays.

Congratulations to Leslie and Shonna! We are so honored to walk alongside you on your homeownership journeys and can’t wait to see all that lies ahead.

Playhouse Project 2025 Wrap Up

Our 2025 Playhouse Project, presented by Lowe's Home Improvement, brought in over $120,000 for affordable housing in the Charleston Area! Thank you to everyone who supported this year’s event benefiting affordable homeownership in our community.

The 2025 Playhouse Project was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together. Thanks to incredible sponsors, volunteers, and supporters, more than $120,000 was raised to support affordable housing across the Charleston area—funds that will directly help families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through homeownership.

In a single day, 40 playhouses were built, each one thoughtfully assembled with care and purpose. Those playhouses were then delivered to 40 families, bringing joy, imagination, and a special sense of belonging to children just in time for the holiday season.

We are deeply grateful to Lowe’s for sponsoring and hosting the event, creating an incredible space for volunteers to build side by side. A huge thank-you as well to RXO, whose support made it possible for every playhouse to be delivered safely to families’ homes.

This project was about more than playhouses—it was about neighbors showing up for neighbors, investing in our community, and building a brighter future for Charleston families. Thank you for making the 2025 Playhouse Project such a meaningful success.

Publix Super Market Charities Invests $200,000 in Affordable Housing

Charleston Habitat for Humanity (CHFH) is grateful to announce a $200,000 grant from Publix Super Markets Charities in support of our next affordable home build project, expected to begin in 2026 in Mount Pleasant.

This investment moves forward a $2 million development that will create four new single-family homes, offering affordable homeownership opportunities for families in the community and a foundation for long-term stability.

Since the merger of East Cooper Habitat for Humanity and Charleston Habitat for Humanity in September, the organization has remained committed to continuing to build in the East Cooper area while also serving families across the greater Charleston region.

The Publix grant, combined with a $350,000 grant from Charleston County, provides a strong start to the project. But there is still work ahead. Completing these homes will take the care, generosity, and belief of the local community—neighbors helping neighbors, one family at a time. Every contribution, whether time, resources, or advocacy, helps turn plans on paper into front doors opening for families who are ready for the chance to build a more secure future.
