Order of Worship

Dear Friends,

What does it mean to follow Jesus? That’s the theme of our Sunday worship, as we read Mark’s account of Jesus and his call to the first disciples.  With so many differing needs and demands calling out to us in this life—home, work, kids, marriage, politics, sports—where does Christ fit it into this? And if we choose to follow him, how will this change life? Make it better? Make it more challenging? Good stuff to ponder. Looking forward to digging into “call” with you all.

Peace, Pastor John

CALL TO THE ANNUAL MEETING

Pilgrim Church members are called to our Annual Meeting on. Sunday, February 4th, 2024, to be held live and virtually (on ZOOM), immediately following the worship service.

Items to be discussed include the following:

  • Adoption of the 2024 operating budget
  • Nomination and election of officers and committee members
  • Report and update from Strategic Planning Group
  • Solar Project Update
  • And any other business proper to come before the body.

Chuckie Blaney, Church Clerk

Welcome New Members

Come say hello to our newest members this Sunday on New Member Sunday, January 21st, during our 10 AM service!

Sunday School Corner

We are entering the season in Sunday School where we learn about the life and teachings of Jesus, especially the parables. Jesus often chose to teach in parables, which often employ simple elements of life, such as sowing seeds or baking bread, to illustrate spiritual truths. The stories are sometimes mysterious and don’t always “open” easily to the hearing. In our classroom, the story-telling materials for each parable are stored in golden boxes, which convey their precious value and their need to be opened up, pondered, played with, to gift their meaning.

Valentine’s Day

Parents’ Night Out

Enjoy a kid-free evening the Saturday before Valentine’s Day! The kids will enjoy crafts, games, pizza, and a movie. Send your child with a school class list and we’ll make Valentines! Donations will be accepted to cover costs - but are not required. We have an 8-child minimum to run the program. Space is limited. Wider community members are welcome!

Register by emailing [email protected]

We still need volunteers in Sunday School. No prep required to assist!

SHYG has a prep meeting about MATE June Service Trip this Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Dover Church. Pictured at left is a scene from last year's trip.

MSYG meets Sunday as well, from 5 to 6:30 with a meeting to talk about how we each want to begin God’s gift of this new year. We’ll also play games and feast on ‘smores! Meeting is at Pilgrim Church. Please dress warm for outdoor activities!

PEARL STREET CAFÉ ministry follow-up

Last week we had a group of 11 volunteers serve meals in Framingham at the Pearl Street Café Food Cupboard. The time spent doing hands-on service was rewarding, and the guests enjoyed good hot food!

We feel there will be ongoing needs and we would like to help! If you so wish, contributions to purchase food pantry supplies can be sent by check made to Pilgrim Church and mailed to the office or made by online payment through our website. Please designate 'Pearl Street Cafe' in the memo.

We are still joyfully accepting 2024 financial pledges to support our church and all its ministries. Pledge cards are available in the pews and can be deposited in the offering plate, or dropped off at, or mailed to, the church office. Thank you for your generosity!

There are many opportunities in the next few weeks for lay leaders, coffee hour hosts and flower donations. We can use your help to fill up our winter schedule so we are ready to go each week. Find a date that works for you! You can sign up in person on our bulletin board, website or through the SignUp Genius link, or by emailing Janet at [email protected]

Looking Ahead...

Our celebration of the Lenten season begins on Wednesday, February 14th, with our joint Ash Wednesday service in partnership with Bethel AME. Service is here at Pilgrim at 7:30 p.m.

Our 2024 All Church Lent Book and Preaching series is based upon “Ordinary Grace” by William Kent Krueger. It tells the story of growing up into faith and this life through the eyes of a Methodist preacher’s teenage son in 1961 central Minnesota.

From the book notes: Winner of the 2014 Edgar Award for Best Novel and a School Library Journal Best Book of 2013—'Ordinary Grace’ is a brilliantly moving account of a boy standing at the door of his young manhood, trying to understand a world that seems to be falling apart around him. It is an unforgettable novel about discovering the terrible price of wisdom and the enduring grace of God.”

Copies of the book are available in the church office for $10. Recommended for those in 9th grade and above.

Worship is both in-person and streamed live starting at 9:50AM on Facebook and on our

For Visitors and Parents of Children and Youth

Our Nursery offers loving care for infants and toddlers while parents are in worship. It is staffed by a professional child-care provider and student assistants from our congregation.  Children from Pre-K through 7th grade are welcome upstairs in the sanctuary for the beginning of the service. After the children’s message they will be invited to go downstairs with our teachers. We will have a lesson, do a craft project and have time to be in fellowship together.  The Nursery is on the first floor of the Christian Education (CE) wing; toward the back of the church. Please go through Fellowship Hall and continue through the narrow hallway. Once you’ve entered the CE wing, the Nursery will be on the left. Sign in your child and leave your name and cell number in case we need to reach you. The Nursery is available September thru June from 9:30am – 11:30am and during the summer from

8:30am – 10:30am.
