The second regional Climate Week of the year closed on 23 August in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, and welcomed a versatile panel of about 4,000 participants, from government ministers to senior representatives of multilateral agencies to non-governmental organizations.
In particular, participants included Ricardo Salles, Minister of Environment of Brazil, Antônio Carlos Magalhães Neto, Mayor of Salvador da Bahia, Rabino Sergio Bergman, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of Argentina, the Environment Minister of the Environment of Chile and President-designate of the UN Climate Change Conference COP 25 in Chile this year, Carolina Schmidt, and UN Secretary-General Special Envoy for the Climate Action Summit, Ambassador Luis Alfonso de Alba.
This group of eminent leaders catalysed a wide regional and sectoral discussion around climate action, with a view to boosting and demonstrating increased climate ambition in the region.
The
outcomes of the week were presented at the closing of the meeting and, in addition to those gathered at the Africa Climate Week in March, will contribute to building momentum towards the UN Secretary General’s
Climate Action Summit to take place in September in New York and the
annual Climate Change Conference COP 25 in December, in Santiago de Chile.
