Marrakech Partnership Braced for COP 25
Yearbook of Global Climate Action and Climate Action Pathways Released

The  Yearbook of Global Climate Action 2019 takes stock, highlighting climate action success stories and the need for conditions conducive to stepped up climate action, while the  Climate Action Pathways  suggest transformational actions and milestones and the initiatives that can support efforts towards neutrality in key areas, such as energy, industry, transport, human settlements, water, land use, and resilience to the inevitable effects of climate change.

The documents were developed in a collaborative effort with the coalitions and initiatives of the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action, under the leadership of the High-Level Champions. The documents will be presented during an event at COP 25 on Wednesday, 4 December and integrated throughout the events of the Marrakech Partnership.

Marrakech Partnership Programme at COP 25
At COP 25, the High-Level Champions will host a series of Marrakech Partnership events that highlight transformational actions of the pre-2020 period.

In a new era of ambition and action, the focus needs to be on driving systems’ change across the environmental, economic and social dimensions in order to collectively strive for limiting warming to 1.5 °C and a climate-neutral and resilient world. With 2019 being a year of ambition building through a series of engagements, in particular the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit, it is also critical to ensure coherence and continuity, and take the outcome of the Summit forward.

The Marrakech Partnership at COP 25 will therefore join forces to demonstrate what climate actions have been implemented in pre-2020 period that accelerates systemic transformation; what challenges, opportunities and metrics there are to realize the transition, using technology, innovation and finance; how the future needs to look like in 2050 in order to reach the 1.5-degree, net-zero, resilience goals; and how we are moving towards this future. It also discusses how to take forward and scale up the transformational outcomes of the UN SG Summit to accelerate the transition.

These questions will be addressed across the seven Thematic Action Events and seven roundtables. The topics of the roundtables span from resilience and SDGs to circular economy and agri-food chain.

Climate Ambition Alliance
Call by High-Level Champion to Join the Climate Ambition Alliance at COP25
The High-Level Climate Champion for Chile, Gonzalo Muñoz, has published a  letter  which invites actors to be recognized as part of Chile’s Climate Ambition Alliance at the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference  COP25  in Madrid in December.

The High-Level Champion is harnessing this ‘call to action’ to reach new coalitions and initiatives with aims that exactly match the Alliance’s criteria – and which have a credible tracking and validation process in place.
