Silver Linings: From the Mouths of Babes
A year ago our Casper Children’s Chorale took the stage at the Northwest Region ACDA Conference in Spokane, Washington. When we left the stage 30 minutes later, an announcement was made cancelling the rest of the conference due to COVID-19. Our chorale had four days of performances scheduled in Spokane with our 120 singer/chaperone entourage, but those plans quickly changed to activities that would keep our singers close, safe, and happy. As we traveled the final stretch of our 800 mile trip home, we found out school was cancelled. COVID was in Wyoming. . . .
After a long year of Zoom, combined with small group rehearsals for short periods of time, masked and distanced, and no concerts (yes, we recorded a virtual video of our traditional end-of-year alum song, and sang for a live, masked, and distanced . . . recording—I know we were very blessed), I still had a hard time seeing the silver linings. So I did what we all do: I asked the singers. Following are “off the cuff” pearls of wisdom from fourth through eighth graders . . . Read complete post.

Updated Centers for Disease Control Masking Guidance
The CDC released updated masking recommendations! Fully vaccinated people are, among other activities, cleared to "sing in an indoor chorus" with other fully vaccinated people. Please note the emphasis on fully vaccinated. School-based and other choirs that likely have a mix of vaccinated and unvaccinated singers should continue utilizing the recommended protocols (see the short video below for those). As always, the CDC notes that people should consider local conditions and their own personal situation. Click here for the full, revised CDC masking guidance.

The International Coalition of Performing Arts Organizations just released a short video entitled COVID-19 Mitigation Strategies for Choir, summarizing current research-based recommendations.
