REMINDER

ATTENTION TO ALL PHA MEMBERS!

ALL PHA MEMBERS MUST WEAR THEIR PHA ID BADGES
ON THEIR PERSON (NOT ON YOUR RANGE BAG, NOT HANGING ON THE REARVIEW MIRROR OF YOUR VEHICLE, OR ANYWHERE ELSE) AT ALL TIMES WHILE ON PHA PROPERTY.

NO EXCEPTIONS.

If anyone asks about your badge, do not take it personally.
Just show your badge and thank them for asking.

PHA Board of Directors.
ATTENTION ALL PHA MEMBERS!
EFFECTIVE THURSDAY, MAY 28

All PHA matches will resume their normal schedule. However, we still must still follow a few NC restrictions while shooting matches.

They are:

  • While shooting outdoors, no more than 25 people will be allowed to participate in ANY PHA match.
  • Everyone shooting the match must maintain the 6-foot separation.
  • All match shooters, match directors, and RSO's must wear protective masks.
  • No food can be provided at any match.

If these requirements cannot be complied with at any match, then the match must be canceled. These requirements will remain in place until the NC Governor relaxes them again. And we'll report those changes in the Range Report.

Also, the guest restriction has now been removed. Please follow the normal limitation, 2 per member, for guests you bring PHA Range.

Match Results
Bench Rest Match Results
Aug. 15, 2020

Saturday's bench rest match had 8 shooters to test their shooting skills against the weather.
The day started out overcast with a good chance of rain when we starting shooting at 8:00. With poor light conditions & being overcast it was hard to see the X ring at 80 yards using a 36 power scope. Even with the conditions not being the best there were still some impressive scores shot.

Vince was able to double-up with wins in the factory class & open-sight class. As usual the X count determines the winner in both classes. Al, a new shooter from Durham, shooting in his 2nd match at PHA, came within 1 point of winning the factory class. Al brought a CZ 457 rifle to compete in a factory class and brought an Anschutz rifle for the sporter class. I expect that we will see Al taking a win before the season is over.

Our BR match season is slowly coming to an end. We have only four matches left this year; Sept. 19th & 24th, Oct. 17th & 22nd.

Thanks for Harold Fullum for coming out early and helping set up the match.

The prestigious Harbor Freight award went to Steve Russell.

Match Results:

Factory Rifle class 50 yds.  Vince Swicegood 250-10X using a CZ 452, 2nd place, Paul Brinkman 250/8X using a CZ 452.

Sporter Rifle class 50 yds. - Dennis Mueller 249/11X using a Cooper 57M.

Match Rifle class 50 yds. - Steve Russell 250/18X using a Gann custom rifle.

Open class 80 yds. - Tom Whitlow 248-15X using a Remington 40X.

Open-site class 50 yds. - Vince Swicegood 50/14X using a Winchester 52D.

So, what do these .22 match
targets look like, anyway?
Factory Class
This target is for Factory Class rifles. This match is shot at 50 yards and only one shot per circle. (The top row is used for sighting-in.)
Shooting the solid center dot (in bold) will get you an "X" and 10 points. Missed that solid circle? If you hit between the solid dot and the next bold circle will still get you 10 points but no "X". Everything outside of that circle is 9 points.
Matches usually come down to "X" count.
Open Sight Class
This class is shot at 50 yards using open sights on the rifle.

Sporter Class
This class is shot at 50 yards 80 yards for other classes, and you can use a scope. (The top row is used for sighting-in.)
One shot for each circle. The center dot ("X") is only 1/16 of an inch. And shooting it at 50 or 80 yards, what could possibly go wrong.
These matches are typically shot early (8 am) in the morning when there is little or no wind.
The .22 rim fire cartridge can be sensitive to the slightest wind.
