Number of Covid-19 recoveries in Cuba increases to 954
Prensa Latina, May 5, 2020- W ith 78 new medical discharges, the number of patients recovered from Covid-19 in Cuba rose to 954, the Public Health Ministry said on Monday.

Francisco Duran, director of Epidemiology of that entity, reported the total figure in the daily press conference to update on the impact of the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus in Cuba.

Prensa Latina, May 4, 2020- Cuba is successfully administering the human recombinant Interferon Alfa 2b nasally and injected to Covid-19 patients, the national director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), Dr. Francisco Duran, said on Monday.

New batch of medical supplies from China arrives in Havana
OnCuba, May 3, 2020- A batch of medical supplies donated by former Chinese students in Cuba and several companies in that country is being processed by the Ministry of Public Health for distribution in hospitals coping with the coronavirus.

These are 258,000 facemasks, 62,000 pairs of gloves, 40,000 protective suits, 9,600 medical bed liners, 1,400 blankets and 600 infrared thermometers with spare batteries.

More than 6,500 prisoners released in Cuba in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic
OnCuba, May 1, 2020- The Cuban authorities have released 6,579 prisoners in the midst of the  coronavirus  pandemic, which until this Thursday had left 61 dead and 1,500 positive cases on the island, where heavy penalties are applied for crimes involving the spread of epidemics and no positive cases have yet been reported in prisons.



Cuban doctors recommended for Nobel Prize in recognition of coronavirus efforts

Morning Star, April 30, 2020- Cuba's medical mission has been recommended for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its efforts in the fight against the global Covid-19 pandemic.

French solidarity organisation Cuba Linda has called for the award to be given to the Cuban Henry Reeve Medical Brigade which has deployed health workers to more than 20 countries affected by the virus.

Diaz Canel acknowledged Azerbaijan's call for international collaboration against the pandemic outbreak, while also congratulating Uganda for its temporary Non-Aligned Movement presidency. The African country will assume the organization's leadership next year.

Cuba Money Project, May 3, 2020- The man who attacked the Cuban Embassy on April 30 told U.S. authorities he would have shot the Cuban ambassador if he had come out of the building.
“He believed he had to shoot first, before anyone exiting the building shot him,” stated a court  document  filed today.
Alexander Alazo, 42, carried a flag that read: “Stop Lying to People. Respect. Trump 2020. USA, Land and Family.”
Prosecutors asked that Alazo be detained until his trial because he is a danger to society.

Venezuela neutralizes attempted terrorist landing

Granma, May 4, 2020- Venezuelan Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace Nestor Reverol reported yesterday, May 3, the capture of an armed group which attempted to enter the country, landing on the coastline in the state of La Guaira, 30 kilometers from Caracas.
Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López issued a statement indicating that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces categorically rejects such acts of irrational violence, while reiterating “absolute loyalty to Nicolas Maduro Moros, constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, our commander in chief," the Russian agency Sputnik reported.


Biden Says He Would Restore Relations With Cuba If Elected
Telesur, April 29, 2020- United States presidential candidate for the Democratic Party and former Vice President Joe Biden said Monday he would go back to former President Barack Obama’s policies toward Cuba if he wins the presidential election in November.
